A must-do whilst in Hay

We love Richard Booths and we love this café. Food is creative and service friendly - it's light and airy and we always appreciate the artwork on the walls. We were a little puzzled when we visited this time as to why we needed to wait 15 minutes to be seated when the restaurant was clearly half... read more

This bookstore serves a lot of old and new books! Such a beautiful building to house all the books. I did t try the cafe so cannot comment on that

I live about two miles from Hay and my daughter was on a surprise visit so it gave me (us) a good excuse for us to pop into Booth's Cafe. I can't remember the last time I came here for lunch. The staff looked after us very well and nothing was too much trouble. We both chose fish cakes with... More

We regularly pop in to the cafe at Booths as we love the bookshop. At 1.45 today, past the lunch peak, we attempted to seat ourselves at one of the many empty tables. The place was half-empty and there was no queue. Despite 8 empty tables the boss, who had previously ignored us as we waited by the entrance, uprooted... More

Excellent meal, good food interesting menu catering for all, high class food with a difference. Exceptionally polite helpful staff. The owner herself making everyone feel welcome. If you have to wait for a table you can browse the wonderful selection of books covering all aspects. I can highly recommend a visit. It was really busy which is a good indication of... More

Visited on Sunday morning with our son and his girlfriend. Met by a member of staff who couldn't have been friendlier. Asked which table we wanted to sit at, they had only just opened. The waitress returned within a few minutes and took our order. I just fancied poached eggs on toast with bacon. Although this was not on the... More

Bookshop cafe is well ran, and exceptional value for the quality of food available. The staff are well trained and all very knowledgeable of the menu and the bookshop is one of the best in town, coupled with the sweet little cinema the whole complex is a gem.Don't miss any of it if you are in Hay.

The bookshop is absolutely great, but I'm underwhelmed by the cafe - it offers good choices for breakfast and lunch but frankly the atmosphere is a bit offhand. I think that if you have to wait to be 'seated' you might expect attentive and friendly service once you're in but there aren't many smiles from the staff here, and that... More

Hay on Wye as a whole place is just wonderful but this book shop even kept my husband entertained and he is not even a reader. Just super place and lovely food.
