What a bookshop is supposed to be!

When I arrived in Hay-on-Wye, visiting Richard Booth's Bookshop was the first recommendation I received. "It's the bookshop that started it all," said my B&B host. The "it all" she mentioned referred to Hay's reputation for being Wales' national book town. So off I went. As soon as I entered, I... read more

booths isn't the least expensive book store in Hay on Wye, but it is lovely and has a good selection. The attached cafe is convenient, especially on a rainy day. Strong selection of needlework and children's books. Very good travel section too, along with newer offerings. Comfortable seating towards the back of the store.

Probably not the cheapest coffee or tea in town, but very nice. Service was friendly. I have the scone with jam and cream and it was lovely. Not sure why the flat white is more expensive than a latte, but a great place to eat. Would definitely return. Best coffee I had in Hay-on-Wye.

I love this place- although it's not particularly large, it might be the most interesting bookshop in the world. Fantastic ambience with a superb little coffee shop in the rear.

Bookworms' haunt morphs into a pleasant modern store. Dusty maze of shelving transformed into airy family-friendly cafe/restaurant with inventive small plates and cakes. Storeroom transmuted into 47-seater cinema with super-comfortable full-height seats. Film programme includes popular family and children's shows, opera, National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company transmissions, contemporary arthouse and BFI releases. A welcome addition to Hay's attractions, particularly... More

One of the various eateries in Hay, hidden at the back of the book shop. Rather pretentious & over priced but quite roomy compared to some of the other choices

A remarkable bookshop with a host of treasures including its discreet restaurant serving a range of freshly prepared meals that are light and imaginative. If you are ever in Hay go there!

Well worth a visit if you are wandering around Hay on Wye and cannot decide which of the many bookstores to go into. Thousands of books to look at and then a superb restaurant tucked away at the back serving lovely lunches and a wide variety of cakes.

Love everything about this shop and café - a welcoming and well designed book store and one of my favourite eateries as well. I always make a purchase here
