A gem at the bottom of the Wye Valley

It was a very pleasant surprise to find such good quality, freshly cooked food in a brewery owned pub, The Piercefield is in St Arvans, a village at the bottom of the Wye valley and alongside Chepstow Racecourse. We came upon the piercefield by chance when looking for a campsite. We stopped for a meal and the manageress was happy to stay in the carpark overnight. The menu choice was so good it was difficult to decide. The chef was very accommodating and made a starter into a main course for one lady; all four meals were delicious... More

We regularly eat here when we can't be bothered to cook. Not any more! The last three meals have been pretty poor - tonight's was inedible. Was supposed to be beef ribs in whiskey sauce. Can someone tell chef that ribs need to be slow cooked for a long time to ensure that the connective tissue has melted into the... More

The food and drinks here are mainly very good indeed. It may not be fine dining but as pub food I recommend it. Lovely location and nice inside too. Great choice on menu and vegetarians are well catered for, I like to see plenty of choice across meat, fish and veggie dishes. My slight issues are just that but it... More

Fantastic vegetarian menu on offer. Similarly the meat eaters had a wonderful selection. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Clean plates all round! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Clean, relaxing and the music was audible but not loud- perfect all round. Thank you so much!

We have often stopped here on our way to or from Wales and usually enjoy the meal. This time hubby's pulled pork hash cake was Ok but my smoked mackerel salad with bacon and soft boiled egg was mostly leaves with no sign of the bacon, a hard (not soft) boiled egg and a few slices of tasteless tomato. We... More

Great meal with great service. Attended with 4 adults and 2 children. Pork with black pudding mash and roasted apple. Extremely tasty and good sized portion. All the other main courses ordered looked equally nice with no complaints from anyone. A nice selection of real ale too! Waitress was very attentive and pleasant garden. Recommended.

Went out for lunch ,must say the main was delicious I had slow roast beef in sour dough baguette and home cooked chips it was lovely ,then ordered apple crumble with custard .... What a disappointment ,the crumble melted to a sludgy mess with over seasoned apples ,such a shame after a good main course

Deceptively large pub just past the Racecourse in St. Arvans. Very nicely decorated with lovely gardens out the back and little seating area out front, also a large carpark. We've been here on a number of occasions. Their Sunday lunches are good, especially the lamb! Their daily menu would benefit from a couple of 'simple' dishes but then I guess... More
