This thatched gem of a pub was taken over in November 2009 having been closed for 7 months. Now it is a real local pub with Cask Marque ales and a fantastic British menu. There is a bar, restaurant and private dining room offering a lovely friendly atmoshpere and really good food that is great value for money. There is plenty of outside seating for sunny days so come along and try us again.

A family lunch

We experienced a very friendly service and the staff demonstrated excellent gluten free knowledge and accommodation of our requirements. Had a rare treat - gluten free fish and chips! Would be happy to return.

Arranged to meet friends for lunch (we booked) and between us we had a baby and a large dog - all accommodated without fuss. Good food, great service, good value, lovely old building, friendly folks. Good selection of quality beers.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch, the fillet steak was to die for - so tender and cooked to rare perfection. The entire experience was quite excellent. The food cooked to perfection and the service discrete, attentive but not over powering. Great food and excellent service. We will definitely be back. Well done to the whole team

Called in here on the off chance for an early lunch having seen some of the previous reviews. We were welcomed by a smiling young French waitress who gave us a nice table in the bar. Having read a review saying the Red House had a separate gluten free menu, we asked for a copy which was instantly provided. The... More

I've been to The Red House about four or five times now. Every time the food has been delicious and the staff have been very friendly and helpful. I have quite specific dietary requirements and the staff went out of their way to speak to the chef and come up with options of what I could eat. I love it... More

You'll need to search it out , but its worth it. I've eaten here 3 times now and each time the food was superb. The service was excellent too. Have the steak if you're not feeling that adventurous and you'll struggle to find a better one.

We ate in the bar section (not the posh restaurant) and the food was great - loved the portion sizes! The pub is small but has a great atmosphere!

I visited the pub today as a group of 13 and didn't complain at the time as I was with this group. We had pre ordered food to make it quicker but was told it would be cooked on arrival. After the Christmas period had just ended I decided I'd just order a sandwich and chips. It seems this must... More

Booked a table for 6 people the night before new years eve for new year eve, so surprised to get in as I had tried other pubs, restaurants nearer to where we were staying in Thatcham without any luck. The pub is quite remote but entering the cosy bar made the journey worth while. Had a drink at the bar... More
