We visited today for a quick lunch. For a weekday lunchtime the place was surprisingly busy with a few large groups -- always a good sign, but you do wonder if you'll get sidelined as a separate couple (we weren't). We've been other times recently including for dinner. The food is super, it's the right balance IMO between "fussy gastro... More

Pub serves excellent good value pub grub and is set in lovely countryside - ideal base for a walk followed by lunch.

We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of this great pub and I would heartily recommend hungry dog walkers to plan a walk that encompasses a sojourn at this wonderful little pub. This was actually my first meal out after returning from Afghanistan and I can't tell you how nice it was to have a relaxed welcome home... More

this pub is almost a gastro pub and prices are fairly expensive. Service was good if a little slow. The menu provided a good range of dishes including pheasant. The best dish was the desert of chocolate brownie and popcorn ice cream, always a sucker for ice cream. It was fairly crowded on a Saturday lunchtime indicating some popularity. Would... More

Back again. This time for Mum's 90th birthday. Celebrated with a curry and buffet for family and friends. They came from all over the country, especially from the M4 and A34 direction and of course Newbury. All said it was very easy to find. Food brilliant, service excellent with friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble (including... More

It's worth the effort of travelling the country lanes near Newbury to find this excellent and very welcoming pub/restaurant. Front-of-house staff are friendly and efficient and the pace is leisurely which allows plenty of time to enjoy the ambience, the food and the company. Pleasant meal, nicely cooked and presented. Would definitely visit again.

This place has a good base point to start from. It's a lovely old pub in a twee village tucked into a fold in the downs just outside of Newbury. The setting is spot on. To be harsh, the gardens don't make best use of this but they're still a pleasant spot to while away a few hours. Inside, there... More

Really lovely pub, with a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in and the waiter was pleasant, efficient and friendly. The food was a little on the pricey side, but was delicious, with a varied and interesting menu. Will definitely be returning.

I have eaten in the Winterbourne Arms several times in the past year and have never been disappointed. There is a good choice of dishes on the menu. The service is efficient and the food excellent. THe specials are always worth trying
