This is a wonderful restaurant, near Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey.) lassie meat pies, fish and chips... But with a sophisticated flair that makes it very special. Best English steak I've had outside of London, with a rich peppercorn sauce on the side. Save room for desserts... House made and spectacular. The sticky toffee dessert with cream would be a winner... More

We've visited three times including twice when we have been going to the nearby Watermill theatre afterwards. Once we pre-ordered and everything was ready on arrival. Last time we ordered on arrival - opening time- and the service was again very efficient. Good menu and the specials are described in detail. Guest beers available which you can try before choosing.... More

Still our favourite pub meal venue. Excellent hosts, atmosphere, service and quality. Home made pies to die for and a great Xmas day as well as Sunday lunch destination. Great all round. Knocks spots off the other places ranked higher than them on this site.

Having stayed at 'The Vineyard' nearby, finding this pub was the best part of our break. Friendly and genuine staff. The atmosphere was cosy and the food lovely. A real hidden gem and I would definitely recommend and come back here. Pity they don't have rooms :-)

Three of us were travelling from the Midlands to Chichester and fancied a break for lunch. From The Good Pub Guide we located this, and decided to try it. We followed the sat nav and to our horror saw a coach outside. We entered anyway and were give the warmest of welcomes. The pub had not been accepting bookings until... More

We ate on a weeknight and did not have or need a reservation. The food was good and the service very hospitable. We tried their sticky toffee pudding with cream for dessert which was excellent.

Having arrived very late for our lunch booking on a Friday, (M25 traffic), our party of 5 - comprising my husband and I, my dad (90 years old with very limited mobility) one teenage boy and a daughter of 10 - was made to feel exceptionally welcome. The kitchen staff had been held back in order to prepare our food... More

We had a dinner for two at the Winterbourne Arms and are really struggling to find anything to fault. The service was excellent, the serving staff friendly and efficient. The food was all very good indeed, with generous portion sizes. The only fault we managed to find was that one of the pieces of toast with my husband's goose rillettes... More

Having booked very last minute on a busy Saturday night, we were warmly welcomed by the owners and waitress who explained all the specials in great detail. We chose the Bacon, Black pudding and poached egg starter which was divine. My son then had the homemade Steak & Ale pie which was the best pie we have ever tasted. I... More
