Good pub, tasty food, good beer

Friendly pub with good beer and a fine food menu. More pricey than some, but quality is high. Burgers and tripple-cooked chips a particular recommendation.

This is a mediocre gastropub which provides its clientele, made up of middle management and middle 30's age range of Newbury with overpriced burgers and expensive artisan beer. It is considered to be a cool place. Unfortunately we found it to be nothing more than a tad pretentious.

Attended with a large group of people during the midweek. None of us had any real complaints. They did well to serve so many people quickly. My only criticism was portion sizes being on the small size. The venue is nice with a wood burner in the bar area. Beer prices are what you'd expect for this neck of the... More

I've eaten here a couple of times - and both times the food has been so-so. On my last visit I had the crispy beef salad. It was nice, but wasn't a 'salad'. There was a green garnish, but that's as far as it went. The dish consists of beef in a sweet Chinese 5 spice inspired sauce. Nice, but... More

We had heard good things about the Newbury, so dropped into for a bite to eat on Saturday night. Unfortunately the the experience was average. I had sweet corn fritters to start which were nice. They came with green beens adn grilled halloumi which were also quite nice but a bit random and unnecessary. The dish could have done with... More

Went to The Newbury for dinner on a Friday night with a few friends. The food was really good - not huge, but decent sized portions - and presented nicely. There was a nice atmosphere, however the table we had was close to the bar area and that got quite loud so would recommended booking a table over the other... More

The barman, Benjamin, is incredible! Such a great dude! Friendly, attentive, full of banter! He really helped us to have a great time! Very knowledgable and very fun! Highly recommend the pub, and definitely Benjamin!

The Newbury is often mentioned as one of central Newburys nicer pubs, which it is. We decided to stop in for a drink and something to eat before the theatre. The staff are lovely and even though they were very busy we were well looked after. The menu is small but full of pub classics some with a twist. The... More

Have visited this place a few times in last few years, I was extremely disappointed with the last visit. Good took at least 45 mins from ordering to arrive, and was like warm (at best) when it did. Food has gone downhill too, quality of meat in burger was not great! Bar service was ok, but if you're starving hungry,... More

The Newbury was the first place I ate when I came to Newbury in 2013. I was immediately impressed with the whole place - food and drink options and undeniably fantastic service. They had a great chap working for them and he made the experience fantastic this time and in subsequent ones too. Sadly, he left at some point in... More
