Came here for the first time for a colleagues farewell drinks evening. Downstairs inside looked warm and inviting, but on this occasion a group of us took up residency upstairs on the terrace bar area. An extensive range of cane furniture with large padded sofa cushions were very suitable for a large informal social gathering. For a summers evening retreat... More

My daughter's family and I ate at The Newbury last Sunday. The staff where excellent nothing was too much trouble. The food the best I have tasted in a long time. The ambiance on the outside terrace was just right for a sunny Sunday.(minor complaint about the bells but not the fault of the Newbury) It was not your Sunday... More

Excellent food, excellent service . If you are not looking for a bargain Sunday Lunch and you appreciate quality food then you can do no better. If you want a Sunday Carvery for £6.99 then this isn't for you .. but we will go back again and again. One crticism is the seating...hard wooden school chairs that played havoc with... More

Sunday lunch with for five including a toddler was delightful. Good to see the high chair waiting for us. Food was excellent although the size of starters was variable (salmon small, chorizo flat bread huge) the quality was good. The slow cooked beef was a great Sunday roast. Good attentive service too. We enjoyed it.

We had a lovely evening at The Newbury this Saturday night. We were half an hour early so went upstairs to the bar area. Quite crowded as it was the Newbury races, but managed to get a table. We both ordered a margarita, don't think they do cocktails, but the smiling bar man had a go. Not the best but... More

We were in Newbury for the races this weekend and found this gastropub through Tripadvisor. We made a phone reservation but when we arrived, we weren't on the list and it was a packed house - we expected the worst....however, the manager came over and sorted it out promptly. We only had to wait <5 minutes before a table was... More

not getting out very often we always look for some where that will not disappoint and also offers something a little different. to date we have never been let down by the Newbury, it is a little pricey but the menu always has a twist, it is not to pretentious and the staff treat you well. last visit we had... Went to revamped restraunt last weekend for a meal with my wife. We tried to make a reservation on line but turned up only to be told their systems had been down all day and the reservation was never made. The manager managed to squeeze us in on a table in an hour's time so we sat upstairs on the... More

Lunch last week, well cooked and excellent service as always, recent open air and part under cover top floor have been carved out of nothing to make excellent space, this seems to be an independent although I believe there are one or two others in the group, certainly shows when you get away from the chain establishments.
