Had a local not mentioned this to us, we would not have known it existed, as it is set above it's own little quiet bay, with Jacobs Ladder leading onto it, but, thankfully, you can approach the café by road. When we arrived, there was a poetry group underway, outside, in the courtyard. There are beautiful gardens to visit and... More

If you visit the lovely Connaught Gardens and have afternoon tea in the Clock Tower Tearooms (sitting in the conservatory or outside in the sunshine) make sure you have a good appetite as the homemade cakes are not only delicious but enormous too.

Lovely to sit outside in the gardens and enjoy their wonderful cakes. In winter it is just as good to sit inside and look down over the beach with a hot chocolate and a bit of their lovely cakes. Did I mention their cakes - don't miss em!

We stopped of here twice during our recent holiday to East Devon. Once for coffee which was very nice, and once for a beer. The staff were friendly and courteous.

Went here expecting more. You get a massive piece of cake, and we're ok - sponge wasn't as light as it could have been, but was ok. However, we were served the worst coffee we had on our entire uk trip here - and I generally go into uk cafés not expecting too much in this respect, but this was... More

This is a beautiful place for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. The portions are hugely generous and delicious. The range of cakes is the best I have ever seen and they are nothing short of opulent. You may need to share a piece of cake as the portions are gigantic. They menu is large and varied. The setting is in... More

Sometimes when you are given a huge piece of cake you feel daunted and it is too big and you wished you had not been so greedy. Today we visited this wonderful place and had good cake and tea. The cake was the biggest piece you can imagine and it was sublime, we took most of it home with us.... More

Do venture out of Sidmouth a little further along the coast and you will come to Connaught Gardens. They are beautifully tended with lush exotic flower beds and many small gardens within gardens. From here the views of the cliffs are spectacular. The tea room is tucked away in a walled garden near the entrance to the gardens and is... More
