Friendly, helpful staff, excellent coffee, & delicious homemade cakes and soups!

Whenever I visit Ballater, I always start my day at The Bothy. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they make the best lattes i've tasted. They also have a selection of delicious homemade cakes which i can never resist. If I go back for lunch (which is often the case), they... read more

A friend and I were staying at the Hilton up on the hill for the week and came across this delightful restaurant down in Ballater. The service was warm and very friendly and the menu had anything you could want. Tea was perfect, the freshly made cakes had us going back for seconds! Clean, very comfortable and very welcoming -... Sat outside in glorious sunshine - what a treat! Cake and coffee delicious. Surroundings inside and out comfortable and clean. Tubs of spring bulbs outside smelt glorious.

Astounded to see 2 poor reviews as I-and many people I know- have never been disappointed at The Bothy. The soups are excellent, the home baking to die for! , and the breakfasts always good quality locally sourced pork or beef sausages and freshly made bacon , eggs etc. This is Aberdeenshire- it's real! Avery popular place with both locals... More

A full breakfast = 20 gms beans, 2 rashers re-heated bacon, barely cooked bangers(not sausage) For the price and description I was astounded at the cheek they had to serve it to me as a full breakfast, Left starving overall content weighed less than 200 grams, By contrast my ears are sharp and heard another client ask for the same... Thank you for your review and I am sorry you felt you had such a poor visit. The price of our breakfast is based on using local and high quality ingredients, e.g. free range eggs from Balmoral and sausages from our local butcher. Incidently you failed to mention the rounds of toast, marmalade and drinks which were included in the... More

£7 for 2 tiny undercooked sausages, a spoonful of baked beans, 2 small overcooked rashers of bacon and the smallest fried egg I've ever seen.Any extras such as hash browns, mushrooms, black pudding etc were charged individually. To add insult to injury, the gentleman at the next table paid the same for the vegetarian version which contained more items and three... Popped in for lunch on a day trip to Ballater .The menus are on large chalk boards behind the counter you pick what you would like and then order .I chose the soup ,lentil and spinach , now it may not have looked the most appetizing soup but it was simply delicious and piping hot.My wife had the brie bacon... Been several times this week. Nice staff with a bit of banter. The menu is what you want from a coffee/cake/sandwich shop - simple stuff, but they deliver. We've been to both the Ballater and Braemar shops, and they have both good. I don't want seventeen types of coffee that take ten minutes to make; I do want friendly service... More

We stopped in here after a lovely but cold walk around Loch Muick. We were greeted with a warm welcome and the staff were extremely friendly. We both opted for the delicious soup of the day and the cakes were also excellent. We are just sorry we didn't stop here earlier in our stay!
