My partner and I dined here on a quiet Thursday evening and were made to feel most welcome. The staff were friendly and the food excellent. An appetiser of arrancini came first while we selected our dishes. My partners chicken liver parfsit was swiftly declared the best ever while my skate finger with poached egg brioche and hollandaise was also... More

this pub serves excellent food, great value for money. the whole atmosphere is relaxed and calm. we called in on Sunday without booking and were very lucky to get a table (there'd been a cancellation, so booking essential). We were served by freindly staff and at the end of the meal there was no rush to get us out. Basically... More

There's always a nice welcome from the friendly owners and helpful staff. The dining area is spacious, airy and tastefully decorated. Warm in winter; cool today in high summer, with a pleasant breeze. I chose a starter of Asparagus and Blue Cheese Tart with Walnuts and Pear Salad. The tart was light puff-pastry and the asparagus and blue cheese were... More

It is rare to visit a restaurant where all members of the party feel they could enjoy most of the items on the menu. This was just such a restaurant. We all took some time to make our decisions and no one was disappointed. The complimentary taster was delicious and the rest of the meal followed accordingly. The surrounding countryside... More

Took some overseas colleagues for a first visit to the H&J and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The menu was varied and offered good options at a fair price so we all found something that suited our palates. And we were very pleased with the taste and presentation, service was great too. Even made my guests comment how much... More

We went here for Sunday roast after seeing the website and hearing good reviews. The starters were good, the main was disappointing - over cooked beef, raw vegetables and potatoes, the dessert was nice. Overall it was pretty average and overpriced.

Never have I been to such a pretentious establishment before... The service was appalling from start to finish and the food when eventually arrived was cold uncooked( veg ) and unseasoned and altogether not what I had been expecting due to looking on website.. I will not be recommending this place to any of my friends I really think you... More

Popped in here as a last minute decision - it was early evening on Monday so didn't expect the place to be busy. In fact we were the restaurant's only customers so difficult to comment on 'atmosphere'. We both had a 3 course meal - both opting for a seafood starter and main course from a choice of maybe 10... Had a lovely three course meal. The menu has plenty of choice....we were offered a kedgeree cup cake as an aperitif the we had some superbly cooked calamari, followed by a 'posh fish pie' and we finished off with an Etonian mess...yummy. We ate off the main menue but there was plenty of choice on the daily fixed price which... More
