The Embankment is an imposing mock-Tudor pub with rooms in the heart of Bedford. The clue to our location is in the name! We sit right in the middle of Bedford's beautifully-landscaped Embankment, with wonderful views out over the River Great Ouse, the boathouses and all the hustle and bustle of life on the river.

I am staying here tonight, my room is on the second floor, when you open the door that leads to the second floor the staircase/corridor is cold even though the rest of the building is warm. Room is also cold for me, cannot get any heating to work. I am sat in the bar/ dinning area but cannot get service,... More

Visited after a years break only to find nothing has changed. Great location but food is still dull and really uninspiring - guess that's why they are 79th in Bedford. Agree with other visitors comments -feels like you are interrupting the staff's social lives. This establishment feels more like a watering hole for the clients who drink chat to staff... More

Booked a table for a meal with my fiancee. Was ignored for 10 minutes upon arrival by 3 members of staff with out even a hello or a time scale as to how long we will be waiting. We fealt like an inconvenience and just decided to leave. Needless to say we will not visit again

Have eaten breakfast and Sunday lunch here over the last month. Breakfast menu has a nice variety of choices with some more unusual options. It was well presented and tasted good and I felt reasonably priced for the food e received. I ate here for Sunday lunch and opted for the roast beef. The meat was beautifully cooked and tasted... We ate here on Sunday at lunch. We were a group of 9 with three young children in highchairs so not an easy group to cater for. I cannot praise this restaurant enough. The waiting staff were polite, accommodating and attentive. They brought out the children's food quickly and I like the fact that they don't have a children's menu:... More

We have stayed at this Hotel on 3 separate occasions so far and are very much looking forward to our 4th.The outdoor seating area is wonderful for a sunny day and can be enjoyed at night due to overhead protection and outdoor heating. The views across the river are stunning, there are beds of... This place sells quite average pub food, and quite inflated prices. We were there on steak night, and took 2 8oz sirloin steaks plus a bottle of wine and some water. At £85 for the two of us I would have expected something far better than the perfectly ordinary steak, chips and salad that we got. The béarnaise sauce was... More
