Great, food, great service, great atmosphere

As a party of 4 adults and 1 child we ate here as recently as Saturday 25th April. We pre booked our table which proved to be a good idea as the place was busy, we were greeted warmly and promptly shown to our table, choice was wide and varied but not too much so it became a chore, specials... read more

Disappointed to have a starter served on a side plate with no garnish, very little of it not good value for money. Table of 4 felt similar, the finishing point was a slice of cheesecake which would have barely been 3cm thick, and at nearly £5 was expensive. Overall quality of good was OK, but poor value for money.

this is a fantastic pub and don't know what we'd do without it as it's by far the best pub in the area and it's all thanks to Kerry, Dave and their wonderful attentive staff. We were there again yesterday. I had the best fillet steak I have ever had, I order veg as an extra as I prefer veg... More

We have tried so very many pubs and restaurants in and around Carlisle yet we always end up returning to the Royal Oak. Delicious food with a varied specials board, local produce and beers and extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating staff......and my best friends Charlotte and Nancy! 😊

Prawn starter was cooked in garlic butter. Served with lettuce (salad ?) warm on the outside but still cold in the middle. Main coarse was served on a cold plate. Food was less than average. Will not be calling in again.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch on 15 th of February. Atmosphere was relaxed, staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was delicious. We had a really great experience so therefore would highly recommend, advance booking is required as it's a really popular little gem.

Dined here whilst staying nearby. Party of 7 ate 3 courses for great price. Food was excellent, no complaints at all. Children welcomed and decent menu provided for them also. Would highly recommend.

We recently visited with friends for Sunday lunch. There can't be an easier meal to produce in a food pub on a Sunday. My wife and I chose the roast pork with crackling and looked forward to it. When the meal arrived there was no crackling and the pork was tasteless, thinly sliced meat that resembled pre-cooked supermarket ham slices.... More

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to review, obviously I am really disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy the roast on Sunday. We just this week changed from belly pork to a roasted pork joint as the quality of the belly pork hadn't been great the last few weeks, this is often the case this time of year... More

What proper good grub should be - Locally sourced ingredients homemade traditions and specials with a twist! Very good value for money, plenty of choice. Always willing to accommodate swaps and extras. Couldn't fault it. Loved our cheeky cuddle with Nancy too - the resident hound! Very hardworking family who run a lovely country pub! We will be back!
