Went for a birthday treat to Bijou and we were interested to try the "taster menu" which we'd heard about. We were not left disappointed! We were made welcome from the moment we entered the dining room by the very polite and attentive staff. The food was very tasty and well presented. We had course after course with enough time... For a city of its size Carlisle has too few restaurants such as Bijou, where one can enjoy "fine dining" in pleasant surroundings with attentive service. The head waiter here is friendly and knowledgable about the menu and explains each dish as it is served. The chef uses locally sourced produce whenever he can......including an excellent Bombay Sapphire style gin,... More

We had friends comming up that we hadn't seen for a while and we couldn't decide where to go and eat. We decide to go back to bijou as we hadn't been for sometime and we had thoroughly enjoyed our previous visit. As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by very friendly, professional staff. We were shown to... More

We hadn’t heard much about this restaurant, but we decided to give it a try. Upon entering we were led into the main room, which was pleasant, nicely lit and graced with some soft music by Air- a good start. However, we were quickly taken through and positioned in a smaller room which was apparently reserved for the less lucrative... More

Stopped off in Carlisle for the night recently on the way to Scotland and delighted to have discovered this gem. Excellent food and service, well worth the money.

Visited this restaurant in marchThe food was exceptional. The black pudding was the best I have ever tasted. The service was excellent. It was slightly pricey but not overpriced for the quality of the food. The only slight let down was the espresso which was not an espresso at all. It was a black coffee. All in all though would... Had a fantastic romantic meal here. The service was impeccable. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Food was delicious right down to all the little extras they offer you. It felt very special and though pricey it was most certainly worth it. we will return for special occasions and would like to try it for lunch sometime. Bijou is the new king of... More

I took my husband here for his birthday. I pre booked for 7pm. But after dumping the kids off early, we arrived 45mins early. Before they were even open. But we were made feel very welcome, it was a very relaxed atmosphere for a formal establishment. The food was really good value on the set menu, very tasty and well... More
