Just like one of the recent reviews, my issue is with the attitude and decision making of the owner plus the dreadful attitude of a staff member! I have always been an avid supporter of this restaurant so coming up to my son's Graduation (several months in advance) I booked a table for us to celebrate on Graduation day. It... More

OMG! The owner has made the best decision of his life to shut that door forever. I met business colleagues after work for a quiet drink, but unfortunately the peace did not last long. When ordering our first round of drinks I was appalled at the language of a small guy behind the bar shouting and swearing at the staff.... More

We came here on a Saturday lunch time for a girls day out. The cocktails were the best we had that day (will definately be back for a Passion Drop). It was very busy, but the staff were very accommodating and the atmosphere is good, so we didn't mind waiting for a table. The food very good, perhaps a tad... More

I've always liked the GL. I was surprised about the write up regarding their rating on "scores on doors" as the food has never been a cause for concern when served - always tasty and looks and smells great. Wine really good. Good choice.

The Gilded Lily was an extremely pleasant surprise, well worth the detour into Carlisle on a long drive North. The service was excellent and the food was better. The venison pie (a special of the day) was perhaps the best we'd ever tried, not the usual bowl of stew with a pastry 'hat' but rather a generous slice of a... More

We celebrated our 25th Silver Anniversary at The Gilded Lily, the food, service and atmosphere was as fantastic as ever...to top off our celebration we had the lovely surprise of a bottle of champagne which was ready chilled to enjoy, it was a lovely day. Thank you!

For a bar come bistro in the centre of Carlisle the food is really very good, if not excellent, exceeding any other eatery in its category in the city. Metro style mood with a good sound system its relaxed and upmarket feel is precisely what traditional Carlisle needs to broaden its taste buds.

I pop in to the GILDED LILY from time to time ...in fact I do not go elsewhere in Carlisle. Always likely to see others I know there and so adds spice to the evening. I find service and food good(food invariably excellent) but staff know me as a regular. I see many items of the furniture contents have price... More

In times past I always prefered the service in the Thin White Duke, but in recent times the Lily has really picked up service wise, friendly, helpful & effective. I have always found the food to be good and the menu at the moment is excellent. My only snipe is the old glamour brigade that think they have a right... More

I got the steak and it wasn't bad, probably liken it to decent bar food but more expensive. The setting is quite nice and bustling, with enough space to have a private conversation. The window seats offer a view of the street, and there is a heated area out the front that you can drink and smoke in.
