Simon, Ali and the team would like to welcome you to "timbers" our family run restaurant set in a gorgeous 400 year old timber framed building in the historic centre of Colchester. We offer well cooked quality food from our famous breakfasts using locally sourced ingredients, such as Proctors award winning sausages, local farm free range eggs, to our home made versions of world renowned classics. Great Coffees and teas or maybe something a little stronger are all available to wash it all down with! We believe that if we can serve you the best meals, by the friendliest staff, then you will be more than happy to come back and recommend us to all your friends.

Good honest homemade food at its best

Traditional humble cafe, welcoming to all walks of life - while I was in there on a Wednesday morning for brunch with my sister there were tradesmen waiting for their takeaways, an elderly solo gentleman diner and a mother with her young son (who had been given some colouring activities to keep him... read more

I've eaten here a few times never been disappointed. I recommend the cottage pie it's delicious so much flavour ! Also my friend is vegan and they catered for her with no problems. They also own the restaurant next door and are happy to bring something from there if your not happy with what's on offer

I have been here too many times to mention and each visit is as good as the last. Fantastic service delivered by staff who can't do enough for you. The meals are large enough to ensure your full up on leaving. My husband and I have eaten downstairs as well as up and both are enchanting. Beautiful original timber building... More

Visited for lunch. Unfortunately quiche (special for the day) was microwaved resulting in soft doughy texture of filling and pastry and yet still only barely warm. It seemed to be originally overcooked as well judging from a couple of burnt places on the top. Jacket.potato had the taste and appearance of one that had sat for some time and then... More

I visited for first time today with my family after reading all the reviews and was not disappointed at all. Everything said was true, friendly helpful staff, fabulous food and great prices. I was really happy because normally when I dine out I have to mainly eat fish, as a pescatarian finding good vegetarian dishes is hard, so the choice... More

We visited Timbers for the first time today and it was fantastic. Group of 5....2 adults and 3 lively kids. The service staff are exceptional, very helpful and attentive. We visited in the lunch hour and although the restaurant was busy, the service was quick. I had the cheeseburger which was possibly one of the best burgers I've had in... More

My wife and I took a spontanious trip in lovely weather to Colchester. We spent some time in the town shops and looking at the attractions. It is a real cosmo mix and lots of small cafe and bistro offering alfresco, some pretty good street entertainers too!. We looked at several eating house menus, some very expensive, then we came... My mum and I wanted somewhere quant to have lunch but neither of us were hungry for for cream tea, salads, or something down that road. When we arrived we liked what we found on the menu and both went for Cumberland Sausages and mash. Absolutely delicious! Really enjoyed it. The layout has an historic old type of feel to... More
