A fun place underscored by great fish

Take your own bottle or bottles (if your not driving) Sit back and enjoy some fantastic sea food. I cant wait to visit again in the summer. You will have to wait a while to get a seat (unless you turn up early) but your tummy will thank you for it.

This place is exactly as it says. The seafood is excellent. It's not pretentious or trying to be in any way fine dining. The system of not being able to book suits the place. Although it might be frustrating for some however I think given the fact you can take your own drinks with no extra charge and sides bread... More

I finally made it to the company shed after planning years ago to visit...we didn't bring our own drinks as it was a last minute trip, but that didn't matter as when we arrived they provided a selection of locally produced wines. The operation is so simple- as a lovely guest on our table put it, " they focus on... More

I waited far too long after my first visit to return Mersea's favourite shed. We arrived at 11.15 for fear of missing out, even though it was a wet Wednesday in April during term time! So we were the first arrivals, not that that bothered us as we tucked into the sweetest, freshest, juiciest oysters in the world. I could... More

Last visited here in 2004 and little had changed. I had feared that it wouldn't live up to my recollection but it easily exceeded it! Got there at about 11:30 am and by 12 noon was really pleased we had, as all tables were taken and there was a noisy camaraderie. We had 3 types of oysters and the grilled... More

We visited The Company Shed after recommendations from friends and family, which is also how we knew to get there early to put our names down for a table. We arrived at 11.57am and our names were duly put down for a table almost four hours later at 3.40pm. We later found out that they stopped taking names on the... More

This is an excellent format, but the problem is that it's got so popular that it's difficult to get a table. They do have a board system that helps but imo they ought to take bookings with a cc and then only hold the table for say 10mins and charge for no shows. Its really been spoilt by its own... More

I've visited The Company Shed many times over the last 10 years and find the quality of seafood never disappoints. The platter is outstanding value for money and the grilled prawns in garlic so delicious they always leave me wanting, my partner tells me the Oysters are the best he's has ever had. Don't come here expecting fine dining, the... More

I can't comment on the food, but that's the point! The website stated that they close at 5pm and because we were travelling some considerable distance, we called and they informed us that last orders were taken at 4pm. So we drove as fast as we could and arrived at 3.55pm only to be told that they wouldn't serve us... More
