Nice people

We stayed at The Exeter Arms for one night for my partners birthday. We stayed in room 6 which is accessed by the car park. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful. We paid £110 for bed and breakfast. The breakfast was 10/10 and the service was excellent. The room was quiet large but we had... read more

Each month I have been part of a community philosophy group that meet at the Exeter Arms. The staff have always welcomed us as a local group and it continues to be very successful. I am very sorry to read the recent reviews of the restaurant and hope that things return to their normal high standard very soon.

This was an extremely disappointing evening. Despite our starters being over £6 each the portion sizes amounted to 2 mouthfuls. My smoked salmon starter included poached salmon mixed with cream cheese. Hunt the salmon! Then the mains came which were all vey disappointing. Beef Bourgogne very chewy, Thai risotto a sludge mess with under cooked prawns and halibut a small... More

Dear Mr Laxton I am so sorry to find the recent review that you posted. Whilst I hold my hands up that there were issues on the evening I truly thought that the actions taken had appeased the situation. I am sorry that this is not the case. If I am aware of an issue at the time I will... More

You've only got to look at the recent reviews of this establishment on this very site to get the gist of what to expect. Though one likes to pride oneself on not judging the proverbial book....benefit of the doubt and all that.......Oh golly I wish we had. VERY unwelcoming. This is a Friday lunchtime in march. The place was all... More

Thank you for your initial thoughts of 'benefit of the doubt' but as I read your review further I am frankly embarrassed by the lack of welcome and service that was offered to you and would like to offer you my sincere apologies. There are simply no excuses but your experience is certainly not what I strive to achieve. Please... More

After a good meal a couple of years back, my daughter wanted to go here for her 18th birthday meal. We booked for Christmas eve and was assured they would still be serving the set Christmas menu which was great as we were treating and knew roughly what it would cost. I rang again nearer to our booking to double... More

Having booked Sunday Lunch we looked forward to enjoying a relaxing afternoon with good food. Having ordered our first course we were informed that one of the options was no longer available. We had booked an early lunch so this was surprising as only 3 other tables were occupied. We decided to skip the first course and looked forward to... More

Oh such a shame. I was looking forward to meeting an aunt I hadn't seen for a while and this 'experience' just ruined it. Overpriced. Not great food. Staff seem to be more interested in swearing in the Kitchen than actually tending to their customers ( there were 2 other tables here when we dined and none of us were... More

This is our second family visit, and we still think the same. We love the food, we love the atmosphere however the service is slightly ordered chaos. We have a sense of humour and found what others have found tedious, quite entertaining. Five waiting staff could quite happily cover this, instead three disorganized headless chickens make a floor show that... More

Enjoyed lunch for 10 family members this Saturday. Started in the relaxed bar area whilst we all found something to order off the simple but enticing menu. Service was friendly and timely as we then moved to eat in the "snug" area of the restaurant which is just secluded enough so we could converse without annoying other diners! All the... More
