Description: A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George...
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.

We went for lunch as a surprise on my birthday. We had booked a table in the Oak Room but as the weather was so nice we asked to eat outside. No problem at all and very graciously dealt with. Single glasses champagne available and a nice touch in these days of drivers having to be so careful. Food was... More

The George is that perfect place to meet friends or to get the family together for a special lunch, birthday meal or the excellent afternoon tea. You will experience a wonderful blend of sophistication and relaxation to make everyone feel a sense of occasion. I have experienced all three and still over the years my enthusiasm has not waned. I... More

After a tiring day exploring Stamford, we were ready to relax into the comfy armchairs of the lounge in the George Hotel for a cream tea. Friendly, professional waiting staff. Tasty food and drink. Historic, busy, bustling atmosphere.

Enjoyed afternoon drinks then returned for dinner. Pre dinner champagne glass was badly chipped. Rather than refresh drink discretely it was poured from old glass into new glass openly in garden - little etiquette and rather crude. Service and staff at dinner were lovely throughout. Oysters delicious. We decided to buy some special wine and we're not disappointed by the... More

Treated ourselves to the full works afternoon tea. Lots of small sandwiches, exquisite home baked cakes and oven fresh scones. Sat in the lovely courtyard on a sunny afternoon and enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere of this old fashioned English hotel. Good service and food. Rather pricey but a nice treat.

This beautiful, historic restaurant is in a time warp but with service and attention to detail second to none. The outdoor restaurant is outstanding but make sure you wander through all the small bars inside the hotel, they are all exquisite. There were 16 of us celebrating a friends birthday, and I can honestly say all meals were fantastic. Drinks... More

Haven't eaten at the Oak Panel room for years. Well worth it. A little more expensive than the Garden Room but you are eating in an historic Dining Room & the food is fantastic. Not cheap compared to London but better because it was fresh food; fish potatoes & vegetables. Can't ask for more. Great desserts & cheese. Good service... More

We enjoyed dinner in the George Hotel restaurant very much indeed. The food was quite exceptional. My lobster and my husband's fillet steak were both wonderful. All the courses of the meal were faultless and the wine delicious. Service was quite good too, although they were slow to take our order and we had to ask for someone to come... More

We called into The George for lunch last Saturday on our way back from Nottingham. What an incredible place! As the weather was lovely we decided to sit outside in the courtyard area of the hotel where the tables are doted about inbetween big urns of plants and flowers..gorgeous. The food is quite expensive, upwards of £18.50 for a main meal... More
