Description: A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George...
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.

Expensive but Scrummy lunch!

We had our work do here recently - a crowd of over 20 for lunch on a Saturday. We paid a deposit of £10 per person beforehand. We sat on the terrace which was lovely and the service was excellent, especially considering the size of our party! The menu was great and the food lovely (I can... read more

We took our relatives for a thank you dinner in the quirky garden roòm full of wonderful plants and old, convex mirrors. Great atmosphere and good food - the Barnsley chop highly recommended! Prices quite high for 'us lot' from Leeds but good evening. No cover charge and free jugs of water refreshing in more ways than one. Male and... More

Afternoon tea here is a real treat. Lovely courtyard garden if the sun is shining is a must. The George is quite famous and is seeped in history. Have also been to a couple of weddings here which were fabulous, as well as fine dining or more relaxed in the Orangery restaurant which is also lovely. Staff are very courteous... More

We went for our anniversary last week and it was a great meal. The staff attentive and efficient. It was a little warm so they waved the jacket requirement. Good wine list - check out the bin ends for some great deal. A little pricy but worth it!

We have eaten here many times. It is pleasant, historic and has very good service both for meals and afternoon teas. You can always go to the Garden restaurant on spec and they do not take bookings there and we rarely have to wait fore a table in this wonderfully atmospheric eating area. At Christmas the restaurant and hotel becomes... More

We had a delicious menu with smoked salmon to start with followed by roast beef and a nice selections of desserts and coffee. The staff were very attentive and we had a lovely time. We ate in the bistro up top, which was set out like an indoor garden. The staff were very friendly, and we had a good chat with a kiwi lass that was working here. The meal, although expensive, was large and delicious. I was completely satisfied at the end. We adjourned to the downstairs lounge to enjoy tea and coffee.... More

The menu, the staff, the quality of the food were amazing. Superb place to have a dinner. We can choose several different dinner rooms or instead of them, the terrace is also fine. I will come back again, for sure.

We went for morning coffee and asked for 2 americano's they came and were very small cups 2/3 full no top up just 2 mouth fulls each. My wife had a cake which was great value at £2.75 but we were charged £4.40 each total £8.80 for 2 small cups of coffees which is bloody outrageous and they took 15... More

Sorry you felt that the coffee was expensive, it is unlimited though so we feel it is excellent value. I did receive your email but I feel that threatening hoteliers with TripAdvisor if we don't reply immediately is not the correct thing to do. More
