Description: A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George...
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.

I haven't been here for a few years but it is unchanged in its ageless style and professional staff. You can completely relax and be pampered for a while.

Popped into the York Bar on a cold January lunchtime. The bar area was warm and cosy from the log fire but the adjoining dining room was a bit chilly; coats were left on. Had a toasted sandwich which tasted freshly made and was nice. Prices not too bad considering the pedigree of the establishment.

We stayed at The George Hotel for 2 nights and booked the evening meals in the panelled dining room. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service from the staff very friendly and professional. Loved every minute of it. Thank you.

We are regular visitors to The George and we always receive an excellent standard of food and service. The hotel is extremely well run and the hotel has a feeling of tradition and quality to it. I would recommend it most highly.

A return visit and that should tell you everything you need to know. We've been frequent visitors here and our recent visit was just as good as the others. It was exceptionally busy in the garden room but we were found a table. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the service seems to be seamless between them. I like the... More

What a wonderful Christmas we had at the superb George Hotel. The three days were pure bliss from start to finish. The food was wonderful, the luxury of the hotel from the bedroom to the dining rooms and lounges was just brilliant, and the staff, as always, were exemplary, nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The Manager, Chris Pitman,... More

Called in on motorcycles on a Sunday pm when Burleigh horse trials were on.Trated like royalty despite our leathers and bedraggled appearance. Lovely food and very attentive service in courtyard.

A belated New Years lunch with a friend led us to the lounge area of this hotel. Warm and inviting with log fire, stone walls and beams. The menu for this area of the hotel is good. My friend opted for the prawn and crayfish cocktail and I ordered the Asian chicken which consisted of a mix selection of green... More
