Description: A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George...
A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.

Lovely food, particularly the pudding and cheese!

We were at the George on a weekend package and a meal in the Oak Panelled Room was included in the price - I'm quite glad it was otherwise I have to admit, I would have found the prices quite steep with no starters under £10, no main courses under £20 (except vegetarian options) and then you need... read more

A pleasant Sunday evening dinner was had here. There are no advanced reservations for this George restaurant of two but we were seated straight away. The menu covers a large range of foods, you'll not be stuck for choice. Stand-out items from our order were the chicken liver paté starter (huge) and the fillet of seabass main. Service was attentive... More

This beautiful hotel restaurant is full of history. I was a little disapointed with the meal I had. I was spaghetti with lobster. The lobster was chewy and the sauce had absolutely no base, I would have expected a base of lobster stock to have been used instead of the watery tomato cube version that was served. Quite snooty head... More

I was sorry to hear that you felt the lobster spaghetti was not to your taste. I did not understand your comment ‘snooty head of house’ all of the comments we receive say what superb staff and management we have. More

We recently had dinner in the Garden Room at the George in Stamford, my first meal there although many of my friends have eaten there and spoke very highly of it. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but the service was not quite of the standard I would have expected. The staff did not appear to enjoy... More

We have been eating at the George for many years and never tire of going The Service is always wonderful - the staff being attentive but not intrusive. It is always difficult to choose from the menu, but mussels are the best I have tasted and fish always deliciously cooked. Steaks are always tender and cooked to perfection. We love... More

We have been to the George twice now for weekends, it is a wonderful old fashioned coaching inn with great staff and quality service. A great meal in the oak panelled dining room, try the roast beef....
