After a day out with friends at The Yorkshire Sculpture park we looked for a pub nearby and came across The British Oak. We sat outside as the weather was nice and it was a lovely beer garden with a great play park for children. The car park was quite small for the size of the pub and we were... More

Visited here on Saturday night for an early dinner, on a recommendation from a friend. We had booked a table earlier in the day, the pub was very busy with most tables occupied by diners. The menu is typical pub food but with a very extensive choice on all courses. There was good cask beer and decent selection of wine.The... More

Visited the British Oak on a Friday tea time and staggered upon one of Wakefields hidden secrets, The food was fantastic, home cooked meals in generous portions not like these chain restaurants. A menu to suit all tastes and a desert board to die for. As a person who likes a beer or two I was pleasantly surprised to see they... More

This is a traditional English pub which serves great food from an extensive menu. Check out the on line menu on their web site we did and we're able to make our choices before we arrived. They also have a selection of real ale's so if you like a good pint of beer you won't be disappointed. We would recommend... More

Me and my friend were passing this pub on the way to wakefield and I have to say I was really nice! Everything felt really relaxed and easy going a nice old pub with home cooked food. My friend ordered a pie from the lunch menu because she didn't want all the trimmings & everything as she wasn't starving. I... More

Eaten at the British oak many times and enjoyed our meals every time. I would personally recommend the mixed grill which is far the best around for miles. Staff are very friendly and service fantastic.

As a party of 5 adults (2 with severe allergies) and a diabetic child we arrived at the British Oak having been recommended. What a busy little place and now we know why! We recommend you book a few days in advance. The food was home cooked, great portions and a really varied menu. All our special needs were dealt... More

We arrived at the British Oak on Tuesday 12th August after a recommendation from the hotel we were staying at. The serving staff made us aware that they were very busy around the 7pm time and advised us of a 20 minute wait, which was fine and they came back to our table almost to the minute to take our... Very disappointed with my two experiences of the British Oak after recently moving to the area and aspiring to make it one of my locals. We tried to go for food on a sunny Friday evening about a month back and walked my girlfriends dog, we arrive at 7.20pm and were told no food to be served outside after 7.30pm.... More
