Fantastic Food and Service

The food quality was of the highest order - you certainly deserve the star and more, the surroundings are superb and the service is wonderful. Delicious food, lovely service, relaxed and unpretentious... except the sommelier wasn't as friendly as could have been and could have recommended a more varied selection of wine with my courses. Also portions were just too small, smaller than other Michelin star restaurants I've eaten at such a shame as otherwise would have been back in a flash.

The Raby Hunt exudes quality from the moment your are welcomed (all diners are given a specified 'time slot' to ensure you get the level of attention which comes in with the price) Yes the Raby Hunt is an expensive treat but nowhere near as expensive as some, more pretentious, M* restaurants which don't quite manage the intimacy that the... my American friends asked to eat at Raby Hunt, the only Michelin star restaurant in this area. initially I thought it rather small but the excellent service and warmth of the staff overrode this. that however was nothing compared to the food. we had the five course tasting menu and one of us had the recommended wines with the food.... It took some convinving to get a table without booking but eventually the chef let us enjoy his wonderful creations. Very balanced, light 5 course menu with excellent ingredients fully honouring orginal tastes. Wine service was excellent with a selection of less known wine of excellent quality. Although in the middle of nowhere certainly merits a vsit. Next time we... More

We were lucky to eat and stay at the Raby Hunt. Felt welcome from the minute we arrived as we were expected, shown to our lovely room (yes, there were fluffy robes) the meal was sublime, we had the tasting menu (7/8 courses) with wine pairing-some of which were extraordinary! The food looked simply stunning, was explained at each course... More

Our experience at The Raby Hunt was a delight from start to finish! We stayed on Wednesday evening. The chef, James Close, welcomed us as we arrived. We had a room booked and that was beautifully clean and well equipped. In the restaurant we had the 12 course tasting menu. Each course was fantastic (in brief - I could write... More

Restaurant is in a converted pub. Small dining room (hard to avoid conversation of table next to you sometimes). Service is excellent, relaxed and very friendly. The food was of a high standard as one would expect of a Michelin starred restaurant. We had the set lunch which was not overly overpriced and the good slection of wines not too... More

Went as part of a group of 13 and everyone left suitably impressed. It is not cheap, but you pay for quality. I was very impressed with the staff, whilst very good, they were still quite informal and only enhanced the experience. The tasting menu was superb, every course was great and between us could not decide which was the... More

I'm always dubious about going for meals on Valentine's Day - there seems to be a tendency to skimp on quality and portions. Not so at The Raby Hunt. The set menu was absolutely beautiful, perfectly balanced and a pleasure to receive each course. The wine pairing was also really spot on, particularly as I was given a red wine... More
