Located on the tip of Sandbanks Peninsula, you couldn't dine closer to the water. With glorious views across to Studland Bay and Old Harry, the Haven Hotel is renowned for its locally acclaimed restaurant, La Roche. Recognised for excellent food in a fine dining experience, La Roche has been awarded with two prestigious AA Rosettes. Helmed by Head Chef Jason Hornbuckle, who wherever possible tries to use local and sustainable ingredients. With a passion for reducing the 'nautical miles' of seafood, from source to plate. With the sun setting over Shell Bay, there's an ambient evening feeling in La Roche. To make the most out of Dorset's seasonal produce, Head Chef Jason changes his extended table d'hote and prix fixe menus daily, offering tasty variety every time you dine. To compliment the cuisine at La Roche, we have developed an extensive list of fine wines. Head Sommelier Charles Van Wyk takes pride in personally ensuring that the cellar is a treasure trove of worldly vintages. You'll stumble across varieties that are rarely seen outside their own local markets. And because we're lovers of local, there is pick of Dorset wines.

Original and interesting food

We had Sunday lunch - the best part of a very good meal was the starter, an amazing haddock dish with a haddock pannacotta and a mini haddock fish cake and a sort of haddock and pea cake. Sublime tastes and textures. For the main, two had roast beef and one had hake with saffron potatoes and roast... read more

There is a fixed price traditional Sunday lunch menu at £34 for 3 courses + 10% service charge. The view from the restaurant is superb, looking over the sea towards Old Harry's rock and the Studland peninsula, yachts, cruisers and jet skis flit across the view. The starters are a bit contrived but the mains were classic and we all... More

This is the main Restuarant of the Haven Hotel and it offers some exceptional food. The set menu can be rather limited and you should ask for the a la carte menu or whether they have any specials. We had lobster on our first night which was absolutely delicious and not too expensive but it wasn't being offered on the... More

The quality of the ingredients and imagination of the chef together with amazing setting looking out to sea, charming and friendly service and good value prices (26 pounds for two courses) makes this one of the best places we have eaten lunch anywhere in the world

A large family group of us ate here two years ago with a bad experience and with our confirmed 20% off from a member of staff at our next visit (June 2015); it was well worth the wait to celebrate another family member's 18th birthday. We all enjoyed pre-dinner drinks, while appreciating the live, light, jazz trio, before a member... More

Went to The Haven for lunch at La Roche on Sunday with friends who had been before. It's a great place to meet, overlooking the sea & ferry. We all had the beef which was very tender & the jus/gravy was delicious. The desserts were pretty good too. It's not cheap, but you wouldn't expect it to be, you get... More

Visited for fathers day and were presented with the set menu (as expected) this had limited choices so we asked to see an a la cart menu or any other menu we could order from, this became a 15 min ordeal whereby i had to explain that being a hotel they must offer the guests nourishment other than the set... Great views but terrible food and service. Have tried it MANY times but usually leave before eating as never any vegetarian choices. Coffee usually only lukewarm and has to be returned. Nice place but needs new menu and staff. I don't mind expensive as long as it's good.
