Description: This is a lovely Gastro Pub, the new owners took over in October 2009 and have fantastic plans. They only serve locally brewed Bitter and Lager plus a great wine list. Mike is a fantastic chef and the staff are always friendly, smiling and helpful. Lots of space for private parties or meetings. Daily fresh menu with local produce.

For taste, quality and originality this was a meal that would be very hard to compete with at the price. We had not been for a while, and although the menu is a bit more expensive, it has also expanded. We took our daughter an d her fiance who eat out in London all the time, and they were astonished... found the entire dining experience underwhelming-pub is a bit shabby . -menu was not to my taste-not enough choice -didnt enjoy what i finally choose and thought it was overpriced. was not helped by a private party going on somewhere on the premises and noisy, badly behaved children from it running unchecked through the bar and restaurant areas. very dissapointed.

When you walk in the smell of damp hit you. All sorts of people in there. Been a few times. Don't think I would return. Landlady need to go on a customer service courses. Called last orders but would still serve some people still. When we asked why? her reply was I can do what I like as they are... More

I couldn't fault a meal I had at the Tap recently. The pint of prawns starter is just about a meal in itself - the glass must have had 50+ prawns in it. I followed this up with perfectly cooked fish and chips with mushy peas to die for and then had pear parfait crumble for dessert which was also... More

Still a dingy old place. the location does not help it..admittedly not too much can be done...although the car park could be smartened up..the toilets need improving very grubby and smelling so damp and old. This pub is not renovated at all. Food different choices but changed daily. The day I went not suitable for me, pigeon, veal and ox... More

Excellent choice of different lagers/ales/beers and food menu that changes regularly. We were lucky to get a table however I would recommend booking! Price 2 mains 2 desserts 3 beers £46 can't fault that especially for the quality.

The food costs much more than I would like to pay so if you won't object to the heavy prices for high-quality food then have at it.

As always keen to enjoy the remaining summer, we ate outside, overlooking the more commercial part of the docks in Ipswich. We understood that the place was about to be surprisingly busy with a lot of bookings, but we were served quickly and the staff were friendly and attentive. As we arrived fairly early (before 1900), it did take a... More

Nice relaxed atmosphere for a meal, delicious well cooked food. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very impressed with the way they were able to cater to my needs and make a dairy free pudding.
