I had a three course dinner with colleagues. Well not just three courses, because it came with a small extra snack for each course. We had a creamy lobster soup with something suspicious like a large frog egg in it. Not very good in my opinion, but then I do not like lobster very much. Then there was a grilled... More

It rains a lot in Bergen, so how nice to shelter in the cosy, laid back warmth of Colonialen. This is just my kind of restaurant, not pretentious just good classics superbly rendered and great hospitality too. Appropriately set in a street hung with umbrellas, this cafe/bar/restaurant satisfies at every level. You can drop in for a coffee, a glass... More

It was a nice experience! I really loved it however it's kind of spicy on the price. However, everything is relatively expensive in Norway. If the price was proportional I would definitely give a 5 star. Food is great

Colonialen has just moved to a bigger venue. The new restaurant is on a busy corner in the centre of town. From the oasis inside it's impossible to tell where you are. We were welded with champagne on account of our celebration. We had 7 courses with several extra tasters. Wine was perfect. Perfect! Our evening was relaxed and our... More

Service was absolutely superb. The staff were very knowledgeable about the food and the wine, which was very refreshing to see. The food was very good and unlikely to disappoint. My only suggestion would be to keep those dinner plates hot folks.

The evening at Colonialen offered a rich variety of tastes in a stylish and new location. Having set of the evening and all our savings, we expected a complete experience and excellent service, which was what we got. On offer were 7 or 9 dishes tasting meals, or a la carte, where the latter turned out to be mainly larger... More

Ate here with my family (hubby, and 5 and 8 yo girls). In case it is not obvious, this is not a place to bring children to. The food is not children friendly. Having said that, the staff was very helpful and friendly. We had the 12 course menu and they agreed to split our portions to the children. The... More

Now that they've moved to a new and more spacious location, it is easier to get a table. This is the best restaurant in Bergen for the moment. Wonderful food, attentive service, good atmosphere.

This was just great! We had the 12 cours menu. Every single one of the dishes were exciting, surprising and very tasty. It seems like they have a preference for sharp, clean tastes with a lot of acidity. Perfect when using a lot of sea food. Just amazing. The waiter was very knowledgeable. What, from where and when was standard,... More
