Chilled out vibe with "home cooked" food

What a welcome find this was for us after some good but pricey meals in Norway. We went on a cold day and immediately relaxed because of both the warmth of the welcome and of the cosy place itself. We had tasty, home made food that just hit the spot...the fish pie was delicious and portions were generous and well-priced.... More

We were told this this was a pretty good place for a bite and a local beer. it didn't disappoint. We arrived without a booking at about 8.30pm and we were lucky to get a spot at the bar. The tables were all full but that didn't worry us as we like to experience the atmosphere at a bar. All... More

This is pretty much the only place in Bergen where you can get traditional norwegian food that puts a smile on your face. Has plenty of local beers and serves world class pop corn. Relaxed atmosphere in retro style.

Excelent traditional food for a reasonable fare. The main room, although small, is very cosy with a nice crowd and good selection of beer.

We had been told this was a good place to try if you wanted some authentic Norwegian dishes and that you got a discount with the Bergen Card. After walking past it a few times we decided to go in one night despite it looking really busy. We managed to get a couple of stools at the bar and we... More

The staff know their products and can recommend daily specials. The choice of seafood was very good, as was the quality. This restaurant's prices were about average for a restaurant of this type in Bergen, as were the portion sizes.

Really enjoyed the food. Prices weren't too bad considering everything in Norway is expensive to foreigners. Definitely would recommend as a place to go for authentic Norwegian cuisine

We had SO much fun here! We went 3 times in one day!! Lunch, Dinner, and Late-Night. If you're looking for a cool atmosphere without pretense or a hefty price tag, go to Pingvinen. It's really awesome. The food was hands-down the best we had on our trip in Norway, and the beer list was awesome!

You can go here for traditional Norwegian cuisine, or just have a beer with some popcorn and cured meats (combined or separate). I keep going back here and I'm always pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is lovely and the customers are usually talkative and friendly. Recommended!
