Easy Norwegian cuisine

Went here around 6pm and luckily found a table. Otherwise, we would have had to sit in the bar area, so this place does not have too much space for guests (I saw people leaving because they couldn't find a table to accommodate them). Our food came promptly after waiting 15 minutes or so. My fish... read more

Pingvinen was recommended to us by local friends to try Norwegian cousine. I think I was expecting something more than I got. I would say it is a good place to chill with friends and drink but for dinner is NOT good place to go.We ordered Lapskaus something like pork/ham soup kind of and flatbread and the Fish stew +... Pingvinen is a small bar located near the center of Bergen, around 10 minutes walk from the harbour. I think it can accommodate around 40 seating at most. We arrived at around 8pm, and were lucky to get a table as there were people leaving right at that moment. Staffs are limited and they are probably busy all the time.... More

Recommended by our Lonely Planet Guidebook - definitely an excellent tip! The menu selection is small but it changes every day. There are staples such as meatballs, stew and fish. We ordered the beef meatballs with vegetables - it was delicious! If we had had more room, we would have happily ordered a second round. As it was, we rounded... More

My experience of the food was bad. The veg and potatoes were hot but the lamb was cold and I mean cold. When I complained they took it away and microwaved it as best as they could and presented it back to me without any gravy, I had gravy on the first attempt, and nothing that would have passed for... Food is good, atmosphere is good, location is good. Bergen is damn expensive though. The place offers good value/quality for money though.

Pingvinen is a both a restaurant and a bar. It serves delicioud, homemade, Norwegian Food and the prices are good! It's a "retro" Place With old furniture in a small ab bit dark room, but don't let this first impression stop you! It is really a great Place to eat dinner!

We liked it so much the1st time that we went back again during our stay in Bergen. The atmosphere is very relax and the drinks are relatively cheap. The food is very tasty, feels like homefood and portions are big. We paid less than £65 for two main courses, one dessert and 6 Hasa beers what is reasonnable, for Norway... More

Whilst in Bergen we found it a little bit of a struggle to find nice restaurants offering main courses for less than £25. I had done quite a bit of research and seen that Pingvern had quite a good reputation, with smaller light bites and reasonably priced mains offered. We visited on Tuesday evening at around 8pm and it was... More

We arrived at 7pm when the restaurant is already 90% full. We had a fish and macaroni pie, an over baked halibut. The food is cooked in a home made style. And it comes with lots of veggie side dish. Price is very friendly as well. I guess it is very popular among the University students nearby.
