Not the most expensive restaurant in Oslo

But not far off. The same can be said about the food - not the best, but very good indeed. The service is relaxed yet attentive and engaging without becoming intrusive. I'm not entirely sure how successful their conceit of "menu as novel" is, but the courses hang together well enough, the wine... read more

I've planned to try to get a table here for a long time, and when the announcement came that Ylajali will close in December this year - I ordered a table. I had high expectations - and they were met! The 19 dish tasting menu is the only option. The wine menu is highly recommended from the staff - and... More

We had a fabulous dinner in this restaurant. We highly recommend it. There is a tasting menu. Each dish was unique and special. The chef takes great pride in his food and it was evident. We particularly loved the grilled dishes. It was the best leek and the best turbot I have ever had. The staff was very knowledgable and... More

19 courses, paired with 14 specially selected wines. Every course was beautiful, delicious and perfectly crafted. The wines were, as expected, excellent with each dish they were served with. But it was £1000 for three of us. Norway is an expensive country anyway, but this was a lot of money for a meal, and three times as much as I've... More

We have this evening been on a 5 hours journey based on 20 different local Norwegian clean and ecological products created with knowledge and enthusiasm. One of my best meals ever with a wonderful combination of excellent and balanced wines. If you are able to - please select this restaurant on your next visit to Oslo. Thank you so much... More

Ylajali is no doubt one of the best restaurants in Oslo, perhaps the very best. There is only a tasting menu on offer, but this is a real treat. In 3 to 3,5 hours around 20 tastings of the best the Nordic kitchen can offer is served. It does not get any better than this. Service is superb, with staff... More

Ylajali is a brilliant place. Inventive, nice staff, excellent food. Yes, a Michelin star. They've decided to close by the end of the year, so it's adviceable to get booking.

Excellent dinner at Ylajali. The restaurant is hosted where Ylajali lives in Hamsun's novel Hunger, the menu appears as a book, the dinner is constructed in parts and chapters as a a book would, very elegant and nice concept. Dinner comes in 15-18 servings centred on Norwegian products and cooking techniques (fermentating, marinating, wood firing, smoking...) making it an inventive... More

Original, yet traditional - result: amazing. Just the right modern twist to basic foods. But dont get me wrong; everything was so creative, but just not too much. An exeptional experience every time a new course was served (and it was about 21! in all). The wine menu was also very good. If you can get a table, definitiely worth... More
