Excellent dinner, fun staff

A good bit of the charm here comes from the owner himself; he seems to really enjoy being at work, and his attitude makes it fun to be there. In particular, I enjoyed the warm roast beef - which was more like sliced roast beef - on greens, which had a balsamic sauce. My husband and I were so... read more

This is my home away from home restaurant when I'm in Vienna. The service is outstanding, the food is very good, the wines are very good and the best thing is really that the owner makes you feel like you are part of the family.

Big portions, super friendly waiters, good atmosphere, great menu. I can not recommend this little place highly enough. We had a soup for a starter (beef consume with shredded pancakes - delicious) and a main each and walked out stuffed. The service was perfect - not too fast but still attentive.

We were looking for a place to eat our first night in Vienna. Our hotel sent us to Wiener and we were nervous (at first) because my husband has Celiacs. However, everything about this restaurant was great. Our server was phenomenal- casually joking with us in English, recommending local wines (which were so good), and easily accommodating our gluten allergy-... More

We chose Wiener because we were looking for something a little more romantic for a special night - and our last night in Vienna. We were not disappointed. Initially it seemed a little dark but after a while you get used to it. The food was traditional but with a modern touch to it. The dumpling soup fantastic and the... More

The place was unassuming in the midst of a residential area. The decor was stylishly minimalist, the candle light added to the distinctive atmosphere. The service was prompt and effective whilst the food was excellent. We were impressed and would highly recommend this place if you are looking for Viennese cuisine.

If you look for a traditional Wiener Schnitzel - try the "Wiener". The food was great, the service excellent and prices are reasonable.

This is a true Gem. It is cozy (gemütlich), the food is good and the service was friendly. It is of the beaten path, so it is not overflowing with tourists. Be sure you make a reservation a few days in advance since it does book up. It has some traditional Viennese dishes from "Überbackene Schinkenfleckerl" (noodles with ham au... More

Staying in Neubau

Neighborhood Profile
Neubau
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
