A wonderful dining experience in a traditional Vienna neighborhood restaurant, about a 12-15 minute walk from the Marriott Renaissance hotel on Ullmannstrasse. All the other reviewers who've written so kindly about this restaurant pretty much have it right. Creative dishes, yet prepared in a traditional Viennese style. The eve. we were there we had a fantastic vorspiese (appetizer) consisting of... More

A very welcoming atmosphere with a truly charming and kind host, this place has a homely feel and we felt immediately at ease. Unfortunately, although the soup to start was nice, the pasta dish was quite shocking (just pasta oil and some dried herbs with tiny shrimps that tasted off). The other main dish we had was deer schnitzel, an... More

Upon entering the small cosy restaurant, the sense of warmth was palpable. The female waitress was welcoming, and dispensed important facets of information with professionalism (such as credit cards not being accepted). Mains were excellent, and the schnitzel was done just right. The cake with cream and raspberries was excellent too, highly recommended. The meal was presented in a impeccably... More

Waitress was very helpful, friendly, patient while translating the menu for us. The clientele seemed completely local which was pretty cool. Entres were about 15 euro per plate which brought us good good and decent sized portions. Considering we walked here after visiting the palace, the prices were more reasonable than we expected. We ate deer goulash, ox cheek, asparagus... More

An unprepossessing frontage on a street corner hides a really nice restaurant. Not many tables, the menu is hand written in German but the waitress helps you through with faltering English. Simple homely fare but everything was cooked to order and an example of the traditional restaurants Vienna is renowned for. Reasonably priced, two of us had two courses and... More

A rather small local restaurant, friendly service and a very good dinner. We tried to get table for a second dinner but it was all booked up so try to get reservation in time.

The service was fantastic -- my server quickly seated me and patiently translated the all-German menu to me, and answered all of my questions. I had a great red wine with the dinner, and everything was perfect! An appetizer of octopus with potatoes and salad, a main course of venison, polenta with garlic, and vegetables, and nougat dumplings for dessert.... More

This place certainly does not look like much from the outside but what you find inside is more than enough to compensate that. The dishes simple but delicious, well-prepared, and correspond to the idea I have about authentic Austrian cuisine. The prices for the food and drinks were very reasonable. The food is five-star in its class, but the lovely,... More

We went to Herzog's tonight on a wim because it was close to our hotel and had some very positive reviews. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised. We were a bit nervous walking up to the store front as you could barely see inside and when we did walk in we realized it only sat about 25 people... More

Went to Herzog Wirtshaus based on past Tripadvisor reviews. Walked in and and waited for someone to show us to a table. This is a small restaurant but only half full. A frowning waitress finally showed us to a table, but that was all she showed us. After waiting 10 minutes we asked if we can see a menu. The... More
