Friendly people working there, but the food wasn't great. It was more an asian soup kitchen than good and tasteful food. Nice atmosphere although...

The name and the decoration of the restaurant gives an impression of Chinese food, but it is another mixture cuisine. The interior is traditional Chinese style. The food is nicely decorated compared with other Asian restaurants in Vienna. However, the taste is so so.

I went here for a pre Christmas dinner one evening. Both the service and the food were very good and the place was crammed to bursting, full of young people enjoying themselves. However, I did not like the decor - way too modern for me with a load of red and black and mirrors everywhere. I found the lighting very... More

I have dined here on numerous occassions and I have never been disappointed. My favourites have to be the Dim Sum as well as the Meat Skewers served with rice pancakes. The soups are also very good whilst the one time i had curry I found it good but nothing special. The staff are very friendly and the costs are... More

The restaurant is really nice, I loved the black, the mirrors and the red lamps. The staff was friendly and speak good English (rare here...) the menus are also in English. We didn't have to wait very long for our food and it was amazing. Affordable and well tasting. Would recommend to try a lot of different small dishes. For... More

We went to Shanghai tan for dinner in september 2012. Staff were helpful, food was of good quality and decent sized portions and overall we were impressed. As a previous reviewer has mentioned it does try to be like Hakkasan in London, UK but I like that. It was busy when we visited and I would visit again.

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighborhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the center. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theater decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
