Characteristic Austrian restaurant

I try this restaurant in april 2015. It looks good with woodwall and big barrel covered tables that give intimate atmosphere. We try wiener schnitzel with potatoes salad (huge!) and a wonderfull gulastch, for dessert an apple strüdel (fantastic). Relatively cheap (main meat course, dessert and a... read more

The restaurant is nicely decorated and the cuisine authentic austrian. In spite of being a relatively big restaurant it was not too noisy. The food was good.

After a long day travelling, we wanted a quick authentic Austrian meal. The decor is for tourists, but locals dine here too and the food was very good. An excellent selection of local beers and quick friendly service. Do not order two courses as the portions are huge.

A good characteristic place, with internal and external tables, with good food at a very reasonable price, at less than 5 min walking from the fantastic main city church. We chose the meat with camembert (cheese) and found it very good; but they have also a suitable choice of beer and wines, also on tap. Just watch the bread you... More

Has a good range of dishes, which is good for a return visit. Food is very hearty so could never manage a pudding. The house wine offers good value, although a "glass" turns out to be a small carafe. Service is efficient. The atmosphere is nicely buzzy and the clientele seems to be very local.

We made it in on our second attempt - at dinner the night before we were shooed away. But well worth the lunchtime a return the next lunchtime. Really nice surroundings and the food was really quite nice. Staff were fine this time and enjoyed the experience. Would return.

We chose this restaurant because of it's location and good tripadvisor reviews, and it was at least a good enogh choise. Portions were big, almost too big, and the pricing was reasonable. The non-smoking part of the restaurant was full, but fortunately there were no smokers in the smoking part - but you can smoke there! There seemed to be... More

We were looking for an authentic gaststatte while we were in Vienna and the hotel concierge recommended Purstner. He mentioned locals go there as well, so I was determined to try it. From the time you walk in, you are immersed in a different world with animal heads of hogs, deer, etc and other memorabilia. The menu was full of... More

If a big plate of well cooked but simple food in an atractive environment is what you want this restaurant will not disappoint. The very simple wine list tells you all you need to know about where this is pitched and it does that well. The service was ok but attempts at conversation with the waiter were only half heartedly... Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
