Great italian restaurant in Vienna

Ate at Il Sestante twice during a vacation in Vienna. Making a reservation is a must since the restaurant is often fully booked, even on weekdays. The restaurant has a real Italian vibe with native speaking waiters and pizza guys. Like every restaurant in Italy, it's busy and a bit chaotic (which I... read more

This is a place I will be coming back to many times. Make reservations because it was crowded when we were there and probably crowded every night ! I love the fast-pace, italian style the restaurant had. Low lighting, tables close but not too close. Il sesante had a very nice atmosphere. So the food. Wow!! From the first to... More

Exceptionally good and well presented. Delicious pizza and pasta - real Italian style. To be recommended.

I have been here about 8 times. Excellent friendly service. Absolutely fantastic pizza. The dough for the base is just right. Tomato sauce is to die for. Fresh simple and delicious. Consistently good and a must every time I ma in town.

There are a lot of italian restaurants with great pizza's but disappointing pasta and risotto. This is NOT one of them. The pasta vongole, gnocchi and risotto are all excellent and the price/quality ratio is fantastic. And the pizza is a no-brainer. Great place with italian floor managers.

We selected this restaurant based on the user reviews on Tripadvisor and it was spot on. A really nice restaurant with friendly service and a very good kitchen. The filleto di manzo was excellent, as were the pizzas and the spaghetti vongole. We will definitely come back to this restaurant next time around

A very nice italian restaurant. We were searching for an open restaurant after a concert and the taxi driver brought us in Sestante... Decent food, friendly and quick staff and most important we ordered at 23.00.....

We love pizza, so tried many Italian restaurants in Vienna, and this is one of my favourites - if not THE favourite. Pizza is really nice, tastes like in Italy with fresh ingredients. One of my personal favourite is with mozzarella di bufala. The restaurant is very spacious, and has a nice atmosphere. But it is always crowded, so don't... More

The pizza is good and the service very efficient. Unfortunately, the place is overcrowded: is this pizzeria a victim of its own success? We went there on a weekday and it felt like a Friday (or Saturday) night. Very noisy and with tables so close to each other that is hard to breath. Restrooms could smell better...

There are pizzas all over Vienna, from the "Pizza and Kebab" joints at every subway stop to dozens of high end Italian restaurants. Most range from bad to so-so, but Il Sestante delivers an excellent Italian pizza at a reasonable price with very good service and, in good weather, unbeatable outdoor seating. Located in the quiet 8th district, with tables... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
