We had spent the day sightseeing and wanted something slightly different to the norm and found it in Sole. We sat on the terrace which was packed with fellow diners and the atmosphere was delightful. We had the impression that this is a very popular venue for locals and the owner had a word for everybody and knew most of... More

Authentic Italian food of very good quality. Very friendly staff and excellent service. Perfect pannacotta and espresso completed a very delightful meal. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It is on a quiet and narrow street, only a few steps away from the busy Kärntner Strasse.

For years, locals have been flocking to Sole for authentic Italian trattoria-style dining. The Italian owners serve simple, excellent food. We especially like the mixed grilled fish. The pizzas are also excellent. And don't forget to order the home-baked bread sticks (garlic or plain) with your appetizer. They are addictive!

Our last day in Vienna and all of Austria... Austrian food is great but we needed a change... what a change! Great appetizers of vitello tonnato, grilled polipo(octopus), beef carpaccio.... entrees of grilled fish fillets, gnocchi with gorgonzola and linguine with clams, mussels and prawns were all terrific!

A great Italian restaurant where you most likely will meet the big opera stars after their performance at the Vienna State Opera! The owner,Aki, is always friendly!!

Excellent food and warm Italian welcome near Opera House. We went after the opera and were given the warmest of welcomes and many helpful recommendations over food. There was plenty of ice for me to add to my drinks, wonderfully garlicky bread, and delicious home-cooked main courses. I had the tortellini, our friend had spaghetti carbonara and my husband enjoyed... More

Choosing a restaurant because you like the menu outside is always taking a chance. But this time it paid off. It was close to our hotel and we had just spent over four hours on a train, and we were starving. The restaurant was sleek and efficient, with gleaming cutlery and crisp tablecloths. Staff were courteous and helpful. The menu... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
