Nice food, a bit too formal atmosphere

Ella's was proposed by a friend as a venue for our Saturday dinner. The place is located in a quiet but still very central location in Vienna (Judenplatz). My friend said that during the summer they have tables outside which I am sure is a great place to have a couple glasses of wine. The food was... read more

We noticed this restaurant when we visited the nearby Holocaust/Simon Wiesenthal museum and thought the menu looked interesting. Finding ourselves in the area again on our last evening we decided to give it a try. I have eaten many duck breasts over the years but this was by far the best. My wife was similarly impressed by the cod loin.... More

We were delighted to go to a Greek restaurant and I expected a traditional Greek cuisine as I use to have when I visit friends in Athens.......what a disappointment, the Menu is not a Greek cuisine menu, it is maybe Mediterranean, so no Moussaka or other typical Greek dishes. In fact this restaurant wants to play it "modern Greek cuisine"... More

We had high expectation of this restaurant form its fusion and original menu. However, both dishes we ordered were disappointing. The duck breast was hard to a point that I couldn't even cut it with knife. Duck breast is typically tender. I never saw anything like that. My husband took the burger which was mediocre, and certainly not worth the... More

Our first meal in Vienna was a nightmare (think inedible bratwurst) so I researched very carefully after that. This restaurant was around 10minutes walk from our hotel in a characterful square which also has a Jewish museum and memorial in it. We had a really delicious meal. My calamari were beautifully cooked and presented and followed by some delicious beef... More

I had a small business lunch at Ella's and the restaurant provided excellent food where I can recommend the pumpkin soup as well as the sea bass. The service was perfect. Attentive but not intrusive.

Was brought here as part of a business group while on a conference in Vienna. On arrival the tables outside were full and buzzing with conversation, Ella's is obviously a popular choice. Our table was inside in a pleasant and comfortable diningroom. The menu was set by our hosts and so was limited choice. That being said the choice was... More

When someone else has chosen the restuarant on a limited budget and you have a restricted menu, you fear the worst - well Ella's well and truly laid that to rest. Exceptional food - short-grilled tuna fish with avacado, sesame-hippe [like a crunchy deep-fried raft] and corainder-pepper vinaigrette - chunky roll of top quality fish, perfectly cooked with succulent pink... Ate inside with group of 7 including 3 children. Incredible food and the wait staff was fantastic. Bottle of wine was 40 euros retails for $100 in the U.S. Go!

Having eaten in some great restaurants in Vienna during our stay Ella's topped them all. This is not to say others were below expected standards, it was just Ella's was on an other level. The service could not have been better. Staff were very professional, demonstrating a good knowledge of the menu, answering a number of questions related to food... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
