Nice all you can eat lunch

The waiters and the manager of the restaurant were very friendly. The buffet was nice, various tasty dishes. I wouldn't say it was a huge buffet but for the cheap price it was much more than acceptable. We often go to that place, there is no doubt we will eat there again. It could be better ( beef... read more

On my last trip to Vienna I had a free evening and while walking around, found Colombo Hoppers. Being a big fan of Indian cuisine and of trying new things, I decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Without really anything to compare it to I have no idea how authentic it really was. I did have Dal... More

If you like Indian food, you will love food from Sri Lanka. At Colombo Hoppers you can get some of the finest food in Vienna. And don't miss the days when they have a culture buffet, i.e. artists combined with food.

The food was partly ok, partly just simple but not really sri lankan: it was mix of chinese sweet and sour and thai massaman curry. The house wine was barely drinkable. The level of "service" was under all expectations. The personnell were all unqualified for customer service. When asking about all the mistakes and other really shady things in billing... More

I went with some friends for the lunch buffet. It was cheap and cheerful, limited choice of food in a strange modern cafeteria like place. I would not personally go again but i would probably recommend it for young men with hearty appetites as you can go back up as many times as you want. The owner was not particularly... More

We had a delicious meal for 4 adults and one child for under 30 EUR (take out). We ordered a wide variety of curries and appetizers with rice and naan and everything was flavorful, not greasy or heavy, and nicely cooked. The restaurant and courtyard are also very attractive and cosy and we will certainly be coming back (doesn't hurt... More

We were very pleased with the service, quality and quantity of our curry, which was delicious. When I complemented the manager and said please say "thank you" to the chef his wife, who was the chef, emerged from the kitchen to receive our thanks. Well worth a visit as a change from more traditional food.

I have been to Colombo Hoppers twice now. The restaurant offers outdoor seating which is a relatively rare thing in the 5th district and is nice for hot Summer evenings even though it can get a bit loud. The decor inside is tasteful and understated. The menu offers a good selection of Sri Lankan starters, mains and desserts. Most dishes... More

The food was pretty good. We asked for the curries to be spicy but they brought us a pot of homemade sauce which we wished they had put in our food before they served it to us. The food is on the expensive side, but their takeaway meal is reasonable and I think I will try that next time.

After having endless Wiener Schnitzels and pork and pork and more pork, this restaurant with Sri Lankan food was a nice change. Most main dishes were €10-15, which is not cheap, but given that the food is pretty authentic (so spices and drinks have to be imported) I find it acceptable. I ordered the string hoppers with beef curry and... More

Staying in Margareten

Neighborhood Profile
Margareten
This former working class district blends hip eateries and avant-garde cinema with a time travel into 1950s Vienna. Feel the district’s pulse at Margaretenhof and Schlossquadrat. 19th-century Margaretenhof is a local icon, yet has very non-Viennese architecture with its brick structure and cast-iron verandas. The nearby urban Renaissance castle of Schlossquadrat houses several restaurants. In the summer you can sit in its romantic shady courtyard over Schnitzel and Kracherl (traditional fizzy syrup). Siebenbrunnenplatz and its surrounding shops and grocery stores have remained virtually unchanged in the past 60 years: taking a walk there is like stepping into a 1950s film set. Speaking of movies, head to avant-garde cinema Filmcasino in the evening. It often stages foreign language cult films.
