Great value if you're hungry

We have been regularly in the Summer months and enjoy people watching and delicious beer - and it helps if you're hungry! This time we were a family group of 10 so 6 shared 3 pork knuckles which were pronounced delicious and definitely more than enough. Sausages great and the half chicken from the... read more

Went for dinner and had a great time. You can't make reservations and it was full. So you have to be aware when someone gets up to take a table. Eat the famous Schweizerhaus Stelze, but order for at least two people because it's a lot for one person. And of course you can't leave without having a beer or... More

A very nice biergarten located next to an amusement park. Waiters were very pleasent, atmosphere was really lively. And the dish... make sure you do not try to eat it alone, and take a beer or two to wash it down.

If you like repetitive carnival music; greasy food; a view of live ponies stuck on a ride, ostensibly pulling carriages for children; and shrieking kids and babies, this is your place. The food was really just so so. We went to Schweizerhaus because it was recommended to as a bastion of Austro-Bohemian delights. Lots of starchy and greasy food. The... More

Since this establishment is in the Prater district, it may be missed by those visiting Vienna, but it shouldn't be. An Austrian diplomat friend of ours trumpeted that it had "the best draft beer in town", and it's hard to disagree with him. The beergarden serves the Budweiser from Czech by the pitcher or in tall glasses. Just keep it... More

We came here on a Saturday afternoon in search of the quintessential beer garden experience, and that's exactly what we found. Beer, pretzels, sausages, cheese, mustard, beer... All at a perfectly reasonable price. We were able to find space to sit without much trouble, but had we arrived after 6pm or so it wouldn't have been so easy. We tried... More

Schweizerhaus is a nice biergarten just beneath the giant prater turm swing. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and you just walk up and claim a table. OK, the food: The pig knuckle and bratwurst were delicious. No need to order too quickly: the food came out in about 3 minutes. Highly recommend a Radler (beer + lemonade) on a... More

The best pork we have ever had. Service was great outside in the beer garden, but non-existent inside the restaurant. Would definitely go back.

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
