very good

This was recommended by our server in the Vienna Hard Rock, or we probably would not have known about it or tried it. Glad we did! We went there on a Wednesday evening, and it was still fairly full but not like the weekend. Found an inside table and service was fine. Did not try the famous pork... read more

First time, 8 years ago, we entered by mistake in this restaurant. Ever since we keep coming back for the best pork knuckle.

I enjoyed the food which was excellent as always. However, I found out that the beer price increased significantly since 2 years ago. The place is crowded, but even with that the staff succeed to serve the guests very promptly.

Great pork knuckle. Everything even bread or butter or mustard is ala carte. Very crowded and noisy in the evening. Better to go for lunch time

Contrary to what most people write, the day we visit the restaurant was not crowded, it was around four or five o'clock in the evening and we found a table right away as we enter. The server was helpful and amicable, we order the specialty of the house hintere schweinsstelze, it was really good the skin of the pork was... More

Came here for lunch with my two sisters at about 1pm on Sunday. Despite reading many reviews on tripadvisor to expect a long wait without reservation, there were surprisingly quite a number of empty tables around when we were there, so luckily for us we just sat ourselves down at one table and didn't have to wait at all. We... More

Many local people seem to enjoy here. Place is great and you can feel kind of 'authentic' atmosphere. Most locals ate something that looked like deep fried pig's leg/knee. We ate something more boring like standard gulass and schnitzel and they were quite ok. Apfelstrudel as a dessert was a huge mistake. Waiters were busy but delivered the stuff, nothing... More

Schweizerhaus is located inside an amusement park, it's super crowded, but the fried pork alone is worth the hassle. It's delicious! The service is OK, the waiters seemed over stressed, but you won't have to wait a long time to get your food. However, you will have to wait a long time to find a place to sit.

Outside the city center in the so called "Prater" you find the best place for beer (the original Bud) and meat (Stelze). Go there if weather allows to sit outside and enjoy the scenerie - reservation via web is possible and for weekend a good advise.

Our waiter, Hr Daniel, as indicated on his tag, refused to clean out the dirty table, was pretty much insisting us to order more food than necessary, was trowing plates on the table, was putting his fingers in the food, he was forgetting cabbage salad and was rude. We suggest the management to fire such employee. What a shame !!

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
