Cozy traditional restaurant

Traditional Viennese restaurant located in the Prater (in the 2nd town district), a large public area and park. Schweizerhaus has a huge beer garden with beautiful chestnut trees - wonderful! Schwwizerhaus is located in the Prater in Vienna. Its a huge beer garden that serves typical German/Austrian fare of a high quality. We had a 2 pound pork knuckle that feeds 2 people. It cost €17 and was worth every cent. The goulash was also excellent their was a large selection of beers available on tap and in the bottle.... More

If you want to visit a real beer garden, the Schweizerhaus is a must. It's a party place, where thousands of people meet every day during spring and summertime. Old people, young people, rich and poor, sit at the same table... Don't look for an empty table, look for an empty chair. Don't expect very friendly waiters, don't expect healthy... More

Although this is one of the most frequently visited places by tourists in Vienna the management still hasn't learned what real service means. No matter how many waiters we asked something they replied in very unfriendly and even arrogant manner. When we ordered a couple of glasses water for the kids the guy said he is gonna bring us a... Was ok overall. Food was reasonable but if you order a pint of beer, you are not ordering a glass half full of head - consistently saw this with all the beer going passed us. Place was very busy and accessible from the Prater park Pig knuckles popular, but never tried

Meat was ok, service too, but prices... Meat is 17e, but you have to pay 19 for kg, then for spices you will pay more then 10 e for 2 people. Good meal but when you finish you have to be under impresion that somebody took couple euros for nothing

Well, the pork knuckle is fabulous - huge flavor! Yes, it is a lot for 2 but - actually - can't wait to chop up the 'leftovers' with some baked beans. I'm certain it will be great. The beer selection is unique - many very famous ones - esp. the 'Bud-var'. Stop by the servers table, they prefill the glass... More

This was a bad experience from start to finish. Waiters ignored us when we were waiting for a seat. Bread was put on our table that we had no idea we had to pay for. We were given a 1.5kg pork knuckle (way above the stated 1kg average) which was clearly too much for 2 people who are on the... More

The location is what i liked less, but even with this, food is really good. One of the must go restaurants in Vienna. I will repeat, for sure!

If you are in Vienna you should try to visit the restaurant and beergarden Schweizerhaus in the Prater. You get there easily with the tramline 1. It is an institution in Vienna, wellknown for its Budweiser beer (the original from Budweis) and their knuckle of porc from the grill.

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
