Typical 'Old Style' Viennese Cafe

This is one of those places you could spend all day people watching in, especially if your lucky enough to get a window seat. We had lunch there (twice) we did intend to try some other Viennese coffee house but were drawn back to this one. Well located on the Karntner Ring not far from Karlsplatz... read more

This was the most unpleasant café in Vienna, the staff were extremely unpleasant and unhelpful. although we came in with the family no one tried to find us a table and even left us waiting on the entrance for a long time. when we asked for help they gave us a cold shoulder and mumbled with their language showing disrespect.

We went in for a coffee and a piece of cake. This place is a typical vienna cafe. The interior a bit dated but still charming. You can study the different cakes before ordering. I had the chocolate truffle cake - not too sweet but very filling. My husbans tried the bailys cake, which to me tasted much too sweet.... More

It was our first night in Vienna and it was blizzard conditions. We saw Café Schwarzenberge from the outside and it was what we imagined an old fashioned Viennese coffee shop to be. There were many people inside and the menu looked inviting so decided to visit it the following day. It was fairly empty when we arrived. Nobody welcomed... More

My wife & I tried this cafe as our first meal when we arrived in Vienna and were not disappointed. The cafe is clean and well kept, as is everything in Vienna. The menu had a few different options although all of them were typically Austrian. Each item on the menu is written first in german and then in english.... More

What better place for a late evening snack after an evening at the Musikverein? It is a traditional Viennese Grand Café, with the sort of menu you might expect, filled with the usual Austrian specialities. I enjoyed my visit, but don't go if you expect fast food - it is a place for when you wish to rest and reflect.

Famous cafe, directly across from the Imperial. Had breakfast twice, once semi-American, the other a selection of breads and pastries. Superb.

Our Viennese friends recommended this cafe to my husband and I as a good spot to enjoy the classic Austrian dessert, Sacher Torte. It was nice to avoid the crowds and higher prices at more touristy spots and the outdoor seating area was lovely. The cafe has been tastefully renovated and still has the same appeal as other traditional cafes... More

Great outdoor seating for people watching on the ring. Try the coffee, large number of choices and high quality. We found the food to be average, as well as the service.

I believe in love at first sight, because I have been under a charm of "my world" since we had a first coffee here together. There must be a pause in the life... when nothing is happening, when you just sit and look at the world and the world looks at you :)

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
