Great location, great food

We really enjoyed eating here. Eating in the garden on a warm summer night, under their big chestnut tree, with a buzzing atmosphere was really enjoyable. The hotel Alpha highly recommended this restaurant and they were right. There was an outside courtyard in the middle of the restaurant with a giant tree offering the best atmosphere. The menu offered all of the usuals but many other choices so it wasnt just schnitzel although it was on the menu in several variations. The waitstaff was extremely freindly... More

Really good austrian food in a nice atmosphere. Good prices. Rather smoky in the courtyard, better to sit inside if you want to avoid that.

This restaurant is highly worth a visit. Very friendly staff and the waiter we had spoke perfect English. The food was fabulous and the portions were huge. The "Crazy Grill Mix" had endless meat and fries on it, and my caffe latte was the most interesting one I have had. See my pictures.

I have been here several times over the years and each and every time I have visited I have had the same high-quality experience. They have always been friendly to me, the meals have always been outstanding, and the selection has one excellant dish after another. The interior is very, very nice, but for me the courtyard is the nicest... More

- Solid food at reasonable prices (8 to 15 euro) - Large tables that accommodate large parties - Big restaurant, we were there on a Tuesday night and it was not full - Really good, warm bread - Everything we ordered was quite good....wiener schnitzel, beef gulash, and sacher wurst.

We popped in for a quick bite, ordered beer ... looked around. The interior is magnifecent. Beer was excellent - we took Zwickl. So, we decided to order some food. The result was unexpectably good. Gulasch (I tried many of them) soft and full of tatste, Eierschwammerlnrostbraten (fried meat with mushrooms) just superb!!! I definitely come there again.

You can spend a lot on good Austrian fare in Vienna, but you don't have to if you're willing to venture just outside the inner ring. Take the #2 tram one stop west of the Rathouse and head south a half block on Strozzigasse and you'll find this simple, pleasant gem. The decor iand atmosphere are charming, the staff friendly,... Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
