Located next to the Vienna State Opera House, San Carlo is a must for dinner after opera performances. San Carlo is a family-run restaurant that offers amazing Italian food - spaghetti alle vongole, fish and seafood are my favorites. Professional and polite service, excellent wines.

Its a local favorite of maestros and singers, and it has a lovely outdoor space. Perfect pasta, hard to beat, anywhere.

We went in at closing time and the owner was kind enough to serve us food that evening. It was also raining and we were lucky to find a place to eat that night after the Opera. The service was good and the waitress was very helpful with finding vegetarian dishes on the menu. Loved the food and kudos to... More

We were going to completely different place. On our way we saw this place. It was so close to the Opera building. I was sure it was going to be fine experience. Well, who knew?! We thought why walk far if there is this nice place so close. And we went there. Very rude waiters. One of them looked like... More

I went to this restaurant based on recommendation from a local hotel. I've visited over 10 cities on this trip through mainly Eastern Europe in the past 2 months & have to say this is one of worst experiences I've encountered. From the beginning I noticed an attitude on part of the owner who was also my waiter but didn't... More

What a nightmare! The service was out of this world and I mean on a planet with one word communication. Racism was quite clear and funny I never experienced such racism in Italy! And the food. Simply horrible. It was just an order of seafood olio!! How could that ever fail in an Italian restaurant? With a fancy price attached... More

We found this place on a side street not far from Wiener Musikverein. We ordered broccoli soup for appetizer, and for main courses, we took owner's suggestions and ordered spaghetti vongole and sole fish dish with white wine sauce. Our meal started out okay with soup and some bread which we never touched but later we found out we were... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
