Good authentic Viennese food

We very much enjoyed our meal here. The portions were large and tasty. The price was reasonable. The service was a bit slow but not terrible. We sat outside and it was nice to watch the street. We strolled in the nearby Augarten after eating. Definitely recommend.

Another spot I thought deserved 4.5, but couldn't give it that, so had to go with 4. We sat outside, in a very pleasant garden/park (although we could have done without the 'Spanish' guitarist, who reminded me of Tom Lehrer's line about not shutting up until he was paid). Service was fine, but the food took a while to come... More

We would have loved to enjoy the positive vibe and atmosphere of this cafe/bar. Laid back and casual. However we were at the latter part of our stay and did not want to change any more Euros. We visited on the chance we might be able to use cards instead of cash. When asked if credit cards were accepted, the... More

I have been here a couple of times, and I love this restaurant. The food is always good and better than other "typical traditional restaurant". The staff is friendly and always keen in helping you. The decor is fantastic: a mix between funky and vintage. Definitely a worth a visit! Make sure to book a table during the weekend!

I've been to this place a few times and had the chance to take my parents recently. The decor is definitely of the garage sale funky variety but this just adds to the ambiance. The food offered is as honest and down home a version of Eastern European comfort cuisine as I've ever eaten; delicious, substantial and satisfying. The service... More

We were the only tourists in the whole restaurant, and it was full of entire families out for a Sunday meal. The menu is handwritten and huge (huge menus usually aren't a good sign, imho), but everyone looked to really enjoy what they were eating and it all looked great. They offered us an English menu, but instead we just... More

My girlfriend and I were pleasantly suprised with our entire experience here. The staff were very helpful despite the language barrier and the decor of the restaurant was both quirky and comfortable. We both ordered the roast pork which was delicious - the meat was tender and juicy and accompanying sauerkraut and dumplings were equally as tasty. Hats off to... More

I loved Am Nordpol. First, they provided an English menu, yet the restaurant was filled with locals. The tourist wants authenticity, but not at the cost of complete bewilderment. Our server gave us excellent recommendations. Second, the foodie in you would certainly feel satisfied by the offerings here. The dumplings were among the best I have ever sampled with a... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
