The Imperial Cafe Lives Up to Its Name

The place is not really attractive, but if you are interested in trying the Vienna speciality (a deep-fried breaded thin meat), that is the right place to go.

Lovely ambience and impressive design. Coffe was great and the strudel absolute yummy. It felt like going back in time, I was imaging all the elegant ladies with they long, impressive dresses... If you want to feel Vienna, try this one!

The coffee was tasteless, to much water was inside. The ordered French Toast was only a few slices of bread, soaked in eggs, no sugar, or something else.. The taste was interesting, maybe the oil what they used for the frying wasn't clear, or there was also something else inside before.

Not overly stuffy -- but a the hotel itself is gorgeous. I especially liked the Imperial Torte. And the veal goulash is sublime.

I was deeply disappointed at the service here. After enjoying Coffee at the lobby, we decided to buy the Imperial Torte to go. When I ask it to a guy in a long coat (looked like a chief or manager, anyway senior), he just told me "there isn't a box for that now." Then I looked into a different part... More

Delicious torte, amazing coffee and really great service - it's pricey but a lovely atmosphere. This is the place to come if you want to take a torte home - they come in a variety of presentation boxes. The coffees were very expensive (I think two coffees came to around 11 euros) but the atmosphere is very nice and the... More

Great spot for breakfast & lunch! Good service with high quality food! Great selection of international newspapers...all attached to a classic Vienna Cafe "wooden reading brace" is a lovely feature! The fruit selection was unusually fabulous....now I know what an Earth Cherry is & I love it!!

As part of the Imperial Hotel, this has the same high standards as the hotel. The food and service were excellent and whilst not cheap, were good value. Friendly service, everything of top quality but not the most atmospheric of coffee houses.

We enjoyed a light lunch in Cafe Imperial and came away with another enjoyable experience. Excellent service, good food, and a classy hotel. The hotel in itself deserves a review on it's own. Really worth spending a bit more money to have a different level of service.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
