Very good regional Austrian food

The restaurant is situated in the 2nd district of Vienna. Don't get fooled by the (sometimes ugly) surrounding buildungs and the streets, the food of the restaurant makes it more than up to you. The restaurant serves delicious regional Austrian food. They have seasonal 'specials', which I can... read more

The restaurant is situated in the 2nd district of Vienna. Don't get fooled by the (sometimes ugly) surrounding buildungs and the streets, the food of the restaurant makes it more than up to you. This is a wonderful inn, combining traditional ambience with a delightful cuisine from the forest quarter of Lower Austria. Try the poppy seed dishes!

The poppy seed specialties were great, but do not eat the 'palatschinken' - they came form the microwave (you should have them while in Vienna, but alwasy ask, are they fresh) We had a coupon from our host and still the service lacked (or maybe because of it?)

We are an Italian couple and we found this really nice gasthouse by chance. We gave it a try and it's been worthy! Very good food, both the soups and the main courses, big portions, great bio beer and wonderful desserts. All for a very honest price of 25 euros each. Definitely a nice and welcoming place! Not to forget: a... More

What more could you ask for? My wife and I recently visited the Gasthaus Moslinger again and were impressed by their post-lent menu. I highly recommend their schweinrostbratten. Amazing flavor, not fatty at all and generous portion. It' worth noting that this place continually receives awards from the good folks at the Genuss Region offices for their quality meals and... Food is great, big portions, small price. Clean and quite friendly staff. I had the chicken cordon Blau, meat was tender and juicy and not dry like you get a lot. Very worth while to visit,

Out in Praterstern it's hard to avoid the greasy tourist traps, so I used the tripadvisor iphone app to point out this place - it's really not a long walk but without the app this is tucked away and a little hard to find from the main drag. We slipped in here on a Sunday lunchtime and I think we... More

We were staying nearby and our apartment welcome document recommended this restaurant so we scoped it out as it was in easy walking distance (we were travelling with our elderly mother). The area does look a bit down at heal but the restaurant is nice and authentic inside. They do have english menus. The food is delicious, the service is... More

I was staying at Austria Trend Messe Prater and checked tripadvisor for a decent nearby restaurant for dinner. Being a non german speaker, female and by myself, I trotted off down the road towards the restaurant passing at least 30 prostitutes plying their wares along the Prater...I figured I was fairly safe as at least there were plenty of them... We've lived up the street from this restaurant for three years and have just recently eaten there. Since our first experience two months ago, we've been back three times, every time just as good, if not better than the time before. They have excellent traditional Austrian cuisine that goes beyond the greasy schnitzel. Schweinrostbraten is the bees knees in particular... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
