Gigerl is a really good choice for the passing tourist who has only one or two days to spend in Vienna. A heurige (traditional wine resto) out of the city limits will have its own vineyard and wine. This one is one of the very few that offer the original atmosphere inside the city, and the only one close to... More

Wonderful place to enjoy traditional Viennese cuisine. You can order off the menu or go up to the counter and order buffet style. We had the fortune of arriving during a week where they featured a famous Austrian chef, who gave their traditional dishes a new twist.

Cant say anything about the food, as the place is best suitable for meet eaters, not vegetarians like me. Cand say anything about the wine menu either, as I only had tea and strudel. But the athmosphere was the best I had in Vienna, better than in any other place. Nice music and flowers, a calm, relaxing, homey feeling. Excellent... More

We had a great evening at Gigerl Stadtheuriger. Point to what looks good to eat and they put your choices on a plate and weigh you plate. Food is sold by the weight. Wine grown locally is available by glass, bottled, or carafe. So much fun, good valUe and yummy food. Servers super nice too.

The service was slow, they overcharged us and neither the food nor the wine was worth what we spent on it. We started by asking for information about the wines, however, our server was unwilling to help us in either German or English. She seemed impatient and unwilling to explain what was special or unique about their wines. When we... More

We went here on our first night, I asked a waitress if there were any tables free, she said yes and told us to sit round the side of the restaurant (where all the tables said reserved) sat here for about five minutes and decided to go into the restaurant, asked the waiter if there were any tables free he... Stadtheuriger Gigerl is one of Rick Steve's recommended restaurants in Vienna. It is near St Stephan's Cathedral and since someone was passing out coupons for a free glass of wine, we figured that this would be a good choice for dinner. I believe that Stadtheuriger means City Heuriger, and one should note that an authentic Austrian heuriger is usually located... More

The restaurant is in the city center, 2 minutes from the St Stephen's Cathedral We were lucky because we didn't have trouble to find a table. After half an hour it would be very difficult. It's a tradional viennese restaurant, were you must choose your own dish from a buffet, with very fine traditional home wines and very friendly staff.... More

We visited more than one heurige during our trip to Vienna, and whilst this wasn't ultimately our favourite, it was a very close second. We enjoyed the heurige platter which featured little bits of virtually every famous viennese dish in one meal. The food was excellent, and the Blaufrankisch wine was very tasty, and at €11.50 for a whole litre... More

Enjoyed our party dinner with a group of my friends. Typical Austrian food and excellent local wines.
