Friendly owners--I'd come back

I chose this restaurant based on TripAdvisor reviews, and unfortunately, the food wasn't up to par during my visit. They were busy filming as well, so I suppose it was just bad luck on my end as the head chef (owners are a husband-and-wife pair, and the wife was the head chef) was preoccupied with... read more

This restaurant is clearly extremely popular with locals and all are greeted with open arms and hearty hellos. The good news is that they are just as welcoming to an American family of five, who will only be in Vienna for a few days! This inclusive attitude plus a fabulous menu and wonderful wine selections make this a perfect choice... More

we were 6 at the table and from the different dishes we had, all of us were happy! the portions are big enough and specially delicious. The place is quite friendly and propitious to enjoy a friends or couples dinner with their 3 different little rooms. I will personally come back for a 2nd try!

The food was excellent and we left with a feeling that we were very valued and appreciated. One of the best places we ever visited.

Not familiar at all with Austrian food and wine, but wishing to try it, we came across this place following the good and credible reviews we saw. We found This place is different, in the good sense of the word. It's looks and decor are like from another time and place in a pleasant way. We couldn't sit outside because... More

The food on the menu is short and focused to their strength. Apparently their menu changes each week but still they seem to do what they do best. They did not seem to be trying to claim they can cook everything any time, but for the week (or perhaps season) they will focus on doing what tastes delicious. The meal... More

The food in the restaurant is exquisite, I recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of austria. I was delightfully introduced to this restaurant many years ago and still now I crave for it's food. The menu changes with times, so you will not get bored of it.

A good choice of dishes with local dishes, but always prepared in a thoughtful and tasty way. The staff are always very welcoming and the restaurant has a lovely ambiance - bit dinner with friends or a romantic night out for two. Definitely my favourite restaurant in Vienna to date.

We arrived at 2.15 on a hot, Viennese afternoon (easily 38 degrees Celsius) and although the first thing the two servers on duty (owners?) told us was that the kitchen was closing, they were quite welcoming and didn't push any of the expensive dishes our way, as some tourist traps do. The lunch fixed menu would have been a very... More

We'd read good reviews and it was good, but it seemed fairly standard fare for Vienna. Perhaps we didn't choose the best meals or it's just our preferences, but there was nothing special about the menu.

Staying in Margareten

Neighborhood Profile
Margareten
This former working class district blends hip eateries and avant-garde cinema with a time travel into 1950s Vienna. Feel the district’s pulse at Margaretenhof and Schlossquadrat. 19th-century Margaretenhof is a local icon, yet has very non-Viennese architecture with its brick structure and cast-iron verandas. The nearby urban Renaissance castle of Schlossquadrat houses several restaurants. In the summer you can sit in its romantic shady courtyard over Schnitzel and Kracherl (traditional fizzy syrup). Siebenbrunnenplatz and its surrounding shops and grocery stores have remained virtually unchanged in the past 60 years: taking a walk there is like stepping into a 1950s film set. Speaking of movies, head to avant-garde cinema Filmcasino in the evening. It often stages foreign language cult films.
