This famous traditional cafe with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular Meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature cafe was a meeting point for all ages. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience.

A Cappuccino Back in Time

Absolutely love Cafe Central. Amazing selection of pasteries and some of the best coffee and croissants this side of Paris. This place is steeped in history. Don't visit Vienna unless you make a stop here.

The line was out the door when we arrived hre at 6pm. We waited about 20 min for a table. Lovely cafe with beautiful ceiling and atmosphere. We had cake and hot chocolate The only complaint I have was that the hot chocolate was served in a tall glass more appropriate for a soda or water, not in a coffee... More

Nothing special at all. It was pretty and packed full of tourists but really nothing special. There are a lot of better coffee houses all around. Apple strudel was not good at all. Coffee was good, hot chocolate was just ok!

It'a historic cafe. You can enjoy your coffee, breakfast or meal in a viennese style building. It's one of the most known cafes in Vienna... It worth to visit this at least once...

We made a dinner reservation at Cafe Central as it was across the road from where we were to attend a classical concert. When we arrived, it was buzzing, and there was a queue to get in. After pushing through the queue to meet our reservation, we were seated quickly, and served efficiently. Solid Austrian food, the Vienna schnitzel was... More

Reputed to be in the top five proper cafes in the town. Always busy, usually a short queue, fast efficient service by liveried waiters. Small coffee that is only warm, a dozen cakes or tortes to have a slice from; the Sachertorte chocolate wedge was dry. The domed, pillared interior is the most impressive aspect.

Loved the old vibe of the Cafe the food and desert were good with an average price but when we were there, a family had their children running around the Cafe riding their bikes and screaming!! it was really annoying and did not let us enjoy the piano player i'm not sure if anyone from the Cafe talked to the... It may have to queue to get in but its worth it. The queue will go down quickly. The atmosphere is great and they serve wonderful cakes and treats. It was real luxury to sit and enjoy tea and cake, with a piano being played in the background. A great place to sit back, relax and people watch!

The beautiful, Viennese architecture, amazing courteous service and the most colourful and tantalising display of cakes we had ever seen in one place, made this the best cafe visits (3 in as many days) we have ever experienced. We are told that the cakes and pastries are all lovingly made by the Cafe's team of pastry chefs and that love... More

We first tried to get in at lunch time on a Sunday and we couldn't even get through the door it was so busy. We went for breakfast the following Tuesday and there was plenty of space. A good selection of delicate cakes and decent coffee served by friendly, efficient staff in a beautiful venue. Vaulted ceilings give it a... More
