Having dined at Fleming's for our first night, we decided to explore a little bit and found this wonderful cafe just down the street. Great choices and staff was eager top answer questions and make suggestions.

The only things I liked were the atmosphere, the wonderful friendly wait staff, and the apple strudel. THe servings are generous but I had a hard time finding food I really wanted to eat. But to be honest, I am not a fan of German or Eastern European food. It is a lovely place if you want to eat traditional... More

Very close to our hotel(Alpha Wien), it is also a beautiful place to have an amazing tasty coffee and strudel, of course. And to relax, see people happy to taste very good food.

This cafe opens at 7am and serves pretty good breakfast so I went there every day during my stay. Yes, the interior looks dated, but that is exactly the point with this type of cafe in Vienna. I don't see why would anybody make a big deal about that. Looks aside the food served was very good. I was satisfied... More

This cafe is meant to be one of the classic coffee shops in Vienna and for the last day of our holiday we thought we would treat ourselves to a relaxing breakfast here as it was very close to our hotel. Having waited for several minutes to be seated (it was barely heaving inside) the waiter gestured from across the... More

So pleased to have this restaurant on our doorstep - really near our hotel. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do more to make us feel welcome. We ate here and the food was delicious. Really comfortable atmosphere and good prices too. Would definitely recommend!

Typical Vienna cafe with nice little booths that we used regularly as a cheaper and easier alternative to the overpriced hotel breakfasts. Good pastries, breads and coffee and our waiter was speedy, cheerful and spoke very good English.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
