Tasty and cheap

We ate here once. The food is very tasty and cheap. Waiters are nice and helpful. Unfortunately there is not a various selection of food, that`s why we did not return.

My wife doesn't like to go to a restaurant more than once, but we returned to this one again! Very old-fashioned, with newspapers attached to wooden racks. The only downside was the toilets which were not up-to-par.

We stopped in here after a concert down the street and loved the place. The menus are in German and our waitress didn't speak English so it was fun and adventuresome trying to order. We ordered some specialty hot drinks. all of which were very good. The favorite was the coffee with orange liqueur topped with whipped cream. Our grandkids... More

Golden chandeliers, mirrors, flower-print lounges and waiters with Viennese-charm ... Everything a little worn-off. Exactly what you expect when entering a coffee-house from early 1900. Food was good, loved the Kaiserschmarrn (no raisins). Be careful, restrooms are horrible.

Typical old style Austrian coffee cafe and restaurant. If you want modern don't come here but it is 'what it is' and has obviously not changed over the years. Food was basic Austrian served quickly , hot and at the price couldn't be faulted. Wine by the glass delicious. Good strong coffe and lovely Apple strudel.

Breakfasted here. Excellent service, lovely food and coffee. Traditionally furnished, with the requisite chintz seats, ornate brass light fittings, plenty of room, daily papers on wooden holders.

Met up with friends here at their suggestion. Great old fashioned venue, with well worn chairs , tables, settee's...coat stands alongside tables allowing for wet cold clothes to be hung near to you. Some cosy booths, with good views out to people watch. Glass display at the entrance with lovely cakes, torte's for you to choose from. We ordered coffee's,... More

Very nice old fashioned cafe with worn out sofas, large choice of newspapers and almost only local customers. Average food, good dessert

A mix of locals and a few tourists. The locals were clearly regulars as greeted by the staff. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We found this place as we were wandering the city and decided to stop for a coffee, attracted by the large windows and old style decor. The atmosphere inside was good with cosy booths available in the windows. We each ordered a large coffee but were disappointed when a decent size cup arrived but it was only half full! I... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
