A cosy place with friendly staff

We went there mainly because we stayed at Fleming's and it's just down the street. It's conveniently located, just across the road if you come up from the underground at Rathaus station. I've been here to have a breakfast on a sunday morning. As I came into the café to ask if I could sit outside, nobody welcomed nor asked me. After minutes of waiting, I sat inside. It took 15 minutes for the waiter to come to me, half an hour to wait for the food and as much for paying.... More

Spacious; fast service; not too busy or full of tourists; well priced; characterful. Try Ashanti Ashanti breakfast- fruit porridge heavenly.

My wife and I arrived at the empty coffee house at 23:30 returning from a visit to Baden, asked if they still serve. The staff was very accommodating and served a (hot!) Apfelstrudel with whipped cream and fantastic coffee.

We stayed at the Hotel Graf Stadion for 3 days and they lacked a nice place for friends to sit and visit over a drink. They recommended the Cafe Eiles and we loved it. We had a late lunch one afternoon and loved everything we ordered. The coffee and desserts were good also. Prices were very reasonable. Staff was great... More

Some colleagues and I went during a quick business trip to Vienna. On two separate occasions, the waiter walked away with our money without providing change, despite providing far more than the meal was worth. When we caught on to the pattern and asked for change back the second time, the waiter was very rude. He first insisted we did... More

We visited this cafe/restaurant on a Sunday evening because it was close to our hotel. It was busy but not full and had a relaxing atmosphere. It felt very traditional. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome even though our German was very basic (they had an English version of the... More

Breakfast. Arrived Vienna early, and the hotel suggested Café Eiles for breakfast while our room was being prepared. They are apparently a long-time fixture in Vienna, and have a relaxing feel, with newspapers available for perusal. We ordered the "English Breakfast" which was OK, not great at all. Just basic fried eggs, almost not cooked bacon, and Panini toast, with... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
