Cheese for the degustator!

Comparing Maerei with Steirereck, which also belongs to the Reitbauers, would be unfair. The concept is totally different here. If you like fusion food and experimenting, you'll like it. The decoration is clean, with greens and whites. There are starched tablecloths and napkins. Table flowers are... read more

The decoration is clean, with greens and whites. There are starched tablecloths and napkins. Table flowers are uniform and fresh, they fit the decoration. Service is fancy; my soup was poured... The staff here need to be trained to a higher level if the restaurant wants to continue justifying the prices it charges. We had breakfast here - the food was all certainly tasty and the presentation was good but not excellent. Several points of detail were missed which meant that this place can only be considered as good rather than... More

It was a quiet night when we visited, just before Easter. It is well located, overlooking a brook. Efficient, curteous service and our server helpfully guided us through the menu. Fantastic schnitzel and a truly amazing cheese board. We went for the 6 pieces for one, which was enough to share and the smallest cheese dish on offer. The selection... More

Entering the Meierei, we were greeted by the smell of artisan cheese, white dishes and cutlery form part of the wall decoration. It’s subtle and fits in well with the rest of the interior. The restaurant felt suffused with light. No music was playing in the background, instead the room was filled with the comforting chatter from the other guests.... More

Last month tried to make a rservation heer with my husbands but they were fully booked. Now I was with a vriend and we had a table here on friday night. I had my hoped up high, but the menu was a bit bague to start with, we couldn't make out what the starters and what the main courses were.... More

We actually wanted to eat in the Michelin-starred restaurant in the same building (and with more or less the same kitchen), but ended up with this "second choice" which isn't really secondary at all. My wife had the cheese selection - you get a selection of Austrian cheeses, each with their little "business card" explaining something about them. Really nicely... More

Sadly, Meierei has become a mediocre restaurant, catering to tourists hoping to get the Reitbauer experience at a less expensive price. Average food served with an attitude. I ordered a glass of Sancerre and our hapless waiter didn't know what I was talking about. Then apologized, saying it was new on the menu. (?) Never mind that the wine came... More

We were in Vienna for the weekend as a birthday celebration and this restaurant was recommended by the concierge in our hotel. The location is scenic, with a river view, and on arrival we were met with the wonderful aroma of cheese and a display of a huge variety of international cheeses so everything boded well for a great evening.... nice place and location, warm welcome, somehow mixed service as the staff was fairly new, good wine recommendations, wonderful cheese, little bit disappointed with the soup - being called a crab soup I expected some of it in there not just the flavour.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
