The restaurant is in a former cow shed of the Hapsburg family; is family run and full of photos and other friendly tchotcke . We live in Vienna, and this is the place we take visiting friends; certainly one can get dinner-plate sized schnitzel at the more touristy locales, but here, the family is welcoming; the food is authentic and... This is in no way a bad restaurant. Its a great family owned, family run restaurant. It may look untidy inside but it makes you feel like you are in someone's home. The pictures on the wall the ornaments in the cupboards all make you feel like you are welcome here. The food is great with massive portions. The soup... More

Although I'm not a huge fan of Austrian cuisine, we decided we needed to eat the local cuisine on our final night in Vienna. We were seated immediately and service courteous throughout the mail. We were a bit early on a Saturday night and the restaurant was about half full. The salads weren't great, but the entrees were quite tasty.... More

We wet with 5 adults and had a nice evenening. We ordered the hirsch braten and it was very good. As a desert we took the pancakes with chocolate and also very nice. Yes, it is not the cheapest restaurant, but the owner, his wife and staff were very friendly. So we will get back again during our next visit... More

Not even worthy of 1 star in my opinion! My husband and I unfortunately chose this restaurant on our first night in Vienna. I suppose we should have realised by the internal décor (splodges of paint everywhere!) that the owners couldn’t give a damn. The introduction on the menu boasted a hundred years or so as a family business –... More

Both service and food are great. After wandering around for a while and looking for a restaurant with local dishes (passing by multiple McDs, TGIF and something called the "Chattanooga", we found this on a side street. I had the Wiener Schnitzel (tender, tasty veal) and my wife had the deer saddle. Both were delicious. An added benefit: real, Czech... More

We had a great night. Food excellent and all reasonably priced. The puddings were beyond good and filling - calorie control watchers - beware! A table in the window is best for people watching and gave more room. We had deer stew and lamb chops as mains - excellent! Restaurant is in Braeunerstrasse just of the main shopping drag (Starbucks... More

Good location, friendly service and good food. Mum in the Kitchen, Dad in charge of the drinks and money and daughter running the tables meant a deep and sincere interest in giving a good service and good food. The wine is made by the family too! Well worth a visit!

We happened across this family run restaurant after we had seen the Lipizzaner horses at the Spanish Riding School. The welcome was great, a lovely old restaurant with authentic pictures and great food and beer! The menu is typical Austrian fare generously served and the place was full of local people always a good sign of excellent food and drink

We ate at Hofmeister on a warm and beautiful Easter Sunday. We sat in the outdoor tables, which gave a nice atmosphere. We had the Tafelspitz for 16 euro, Wiener Schnitzel for 15 euro and the Zwiebelrostbraten for 16 euro. You could probably get the same quality food for a few euro less elsewhere, but the food was tasty, prepared... More
