Please don't be put off by the web-site where nearly everything is in German. They speak excellent English (much better than my German- not difficult). Do please book! We eat here on a Friday night in November at 8pm (20:00hrs) and 30 minutes after we arrived there was not a table to be had. I booked by phone (sprechen zi... More

We were taken to Zum Alten Faessl by our Viennese family and we were not disappointed. Most of the diners appeared to be local rather than tourists and the menu includes many traditional Austrian dishes. I went for the veal Wiener schnitzel and received an excellent portion done to perfection. Combined with a large glass of the local beer I... More

We were a few days in Vienna on a city break and were looking in our Lonely Planet guide for a restaurant away from the tourist traps where we could have an authentic Austrian meal without being ripped off. After walking around the Karlsplatz area we decided to go with Zum Alten Faessl as we liked the sound of it.... More

On holiday in Vienna, we decided to have a Falco day, visiting places associated with him. One of these places is the street where he was born, an unimposing street. It was lunchtime, and we had already passed several promising restaurants / cafés to get to this particular street. Almost opposite was another unimposing sight, restaurant Zum Alten Fassl. No-one... if you look for something local, at a fair price and very good quality, with helping stuff speaking english, easy to reach by bus or just by walking (15 minute walking from Karlsplatz) , in a distinguishing area of Vienna , than this place is for you . A good and big schnietzel is from 10 to 15 €, beer... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and did not disappoint. We like that it was not full of tourists. I am a vegetarian and had a very nice entree (that was on the regular menu, not on the English menu.) The Austrian meal my husband ordered (pork medallions) was quite good. It is a short walk from the Naches... More

The "Faessl" is a recommendable place for those that are eager to experience traditional Gasthaus style while enjoying modern and tasty dishes based on classic Austrian food. The staff is young and international. This adds to the special atmosphere the restaurant offers.

It may not look like much from the outside, but the Inside is very quaint and the traditional cuisine is really good. Nice service too, so really do not hesitate.

We ate here as we were staying nearby and had read good reviews. It is a really traditional Viennese restaurant which was busy with locals, so a good atmosphere if not the best decor. The staff were friendly and spoke some English and there is an English menu, although it doesn't have everything on it so its worth looking at... More
