A small place in an alley not far from the Saint Stephan Cathedral, this Swiss-Austrian restaurant serves one of the best cheese fondue I ever had. Unfortunately the one we ordered had only bread and not vegetable. What a shame. The wine is good, the atmosphere cosy and very pleasant. We went after a Mozart quartet concert and it was... More

First - this review is for service only. Not for the food because we were not able to eat here. However, in this instance this is the only way that I know how to address this issue and hopefully it will catch the attention of the owner so that changes can be made. After returning to our hotel from a... More

Thanks to tripadvisor, we could find this lovely restaurant! It is just a few minutes away from Stephansplatz on foot, which is convenient. When we order food, the manager kindly told us "It'll be too much". After following his suggestion, we found that it was! We could enjoy its atmosphere, delicious fondue and great wine. As there are plenty of... More

We had a lovely evening in this friendly little restaurant in the heart of Vienna. The fondue with champagne and mushrooms was superb, accompanied by a presentable veltliner. The host, Hans, was great, friendly and knowledgeable. The meal was excellent value for money and we will return here next time we are in Vienna without hesitation.

Had a wonderful fondue and bottle of wine. Got talking to the owner, Hans. Very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The best restaurant we visited in Vienna

We were looking for a place to eat cheese fondue in different cities in Europe and finally found Chamaleon in Vienna. We arrived late to the city but according to the restaurant's website they close at midnite. We drove there and by the time we entered it was 11PM. The lady who greet us said the kitchen was closed, when... More

I love fondue and was surprised at the apparent lack of it in Vienna. This place, however, gave us exactly the fondue fix that we needed. Be warned: the lingering cigarette smoke will stay in your clothes for a few hours. Atmosphere is lacking.

We went here to celebrate a birthday as we both love fondue. There was a great choice of fondues and we went for the one with champagne and mushrooms, a first for us, it was delicious! Service was wonderful and atmosphere delightful. Would highly recommend it.

Gorgeous little hideaway in the 1st district. Cosy and comfortable. Great service. Friendly and chatty owner with genuine chat/interest. Good food. An absolute must! :)

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
