Excellent meals, slow service

As I posted in the Hotel, this restaurant is located in Novotel Wien City. Meals are excellent and superb presentation. Environment and decoration also, but I found it too slow. Not a question of waiters, it was a question of kitchen. Coffee is good.

We came by just to try out one of the Hackl Gastro restaurants, and, of course, it could be worse, but, to be honest, one expects much more considering the price range that Five Senses has. Food was too salty, waiters apparently were preparing for the Ballet "Sleeping Beauty", because waiting for each dish lasted a little bit over than... More

Our seven course meal on Christmas Eve was a disaster. The service was as bad as I have had with one woman trying to service a full restaurant with four bar tenders helping occasionally. We never had the same person bring us the courses and had LONG waits between the seven courses. The food was mostly pretty but average and... More

We made reservations at this location, very happy to have found a full service location that was open on Christmas Eve. We were traveling from TN, so weren't sure just how many options we would have. We arrived at the restaurant, only to find it is nothing more than the extended breakfast bar area. We were seated in tiny banquettes... More

Hotel restaurant trying hard but not quite getting the balance right for the cross section of nationalities they serve. Perhaps Austrian cuisine is not for me but all main courses seemed to have strange mixtures and there wasn't a light option. I had the chicken schnitzel and was served three large portion of chicken, one was enough for me, perhaps... More

This restaurant seems to run on a minimum staff and only half occupancy. Excellent starter preceded by a tasty appetiser. The main courses were disappointing with a tasty risotto spoiled by overcooking and the veal schnitzel was ordinary. Would expect better at this price. Service got slower and slower and we were left completely forgotten for 20 minutes (as were... More

Excellent omelettes. Very nice waitress, however she seemed to be the only one even though it was a peak hour. Some other staff there seemed not to have obvious roles. Buffet was not frequently refreshed, it was hard to find fruits and vegetables.

I ordered an appetizer with a veggie (radish-based) appetizer. When I was presented with the "appetizer," I laughed outloud and thought, "This is a joke, right? I've got 4 shavings of some root veggie, a couple of mounds of walnut "whatever," and ? berries? No joke. I expected our waiter to bring me the REST of the appetizer, since it... More

Food didnt impress us at all, though there were few tricks that came as a surprise. The restaurant it self was a bit dull as well. Food came quickly and the cost was average, but i wouldnt go there again. A bit of disappointment.

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
