Good Italian

This restaurant is fairly large indoors, and also has some outdoor seating. It is on a sidestreet off one of the pedestrian streets in the old town. The menu was fairly interesting. We had the appetizer sampler, which comes on 3 tiered plates providing all sorts of goodness to share. The... read more

Saturday around 3:00 p.m: We were two, sitting down at a table, ordered coffeee ( perhaps some snacks later...). Only one other table in the retstaurant was occopied (plenty of free tables!) The waiter told us (in a not really client-friendly sound) that we have to stand at the bar-table. No sitting for coffee!. I am 70 years old, living... More

Everything was fantastic, great patio on a quiet side street. Best Italian outside of Italy. If I was here more than 2 nights, I'd go back.

We chose Danieli because it was close to our hotel. Great choice! Simple but pleasant decor, courteous weight staff. The pasta dishes that we had were of excellent taste and quality. Very good wine list and prices not outrageous for a restaurant so centrally located in Vienna. Highly recommend!

Decent location from the Stephanplatz area. Staff was nice and did their job, but it was mechanical and not very personal. The food is what matters at a restaurant. We had a Ceasar salad - that was apparently just borrowing the name of the food invented (developed?) in Tijuana by Caesar Cardini. They both contain Parmesan cheese, but the comparison... More

It was getting late and we were a little tired after arriving at Vienna. We were not convinced with the front desk's recommendation and decided to walk to Danieli for dinner based on the reviews here. It really was a very short walk - just a couple of blocks from st stephen's cathedral - and well worth the effort. The... More

Though we ate outside, the restaurant is located on a side street off the main plaza area so it was quiet and without many passersby. The menu is complete, the food was good and the service acceptable by European standards.

Danieli exudes a discrete and quiet elegance. The food is excellent; I appreciated particularly a seafood menu. Excellent wines by the glass. We were very impressed by the memory of the owner, who - at our second visit - asked us why we had chosen the same plates as 3 days ago. Our laconic answer:

This was an absolute gem of a find for our first night in Vienna! Recommendation from the front desk at Kaiserin Elisabeth Hotel which is only a minute walk away. Fabulous and extensive menu, lot's of options, great prices, I had the lamb chops with ravioli and it was a taste sensation. Reasonable price, extensive wine menu. Lovely staff, knowledgeable... We went on a quiet evening in the restaurant with only a few people eating there. The place itself is charming. The Italian food was good, although 2 of 3 main courses were quite salty. Great wine many. The wine we were recommended was perfect with the food. Good service.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
