another good neigborhood restaurant

On the corner of Pressgasse/Muhlgasse. Its exterior looks uninspiring with a small outside terrace and a single door to enter but once inside it is remarkably spacious with plenty of room between tables. The lager is very good. The food is exceptionally appetising featuring wholesome Viennese home cooking at its best. Friendly attentive service and sensible prices.

This eatery was the one our party wanted to visit most. All twelve of us needed to eat and the owner was very accommodating. Lovely waitress explained the menu to all twelve and was extremely patient. Good wholesome Austrian food in quaint and comfortable surroundings.

Couple years ago we visited Gasthaus Ubl on a regular basis. But then things have changed, and though we tried to visit 1-2 times, we just couldn't keep their closing times in mind (closed on Monday and Tuesday). But this week we focused and tried our luck on Wednesday :) And I am happy to report nothing has changed. This... More

This was one of the restaurants we visited in our search for more traditional Austrian restaurants that catered to locals. Apparently, Franz Joseph used to frequent this restaurant and you just can't get more Viennese than that. The food was delicious - I especially enjoyed the braised fennel we had as an appetizer. The atmosphere was simple yet comfortable, looking... More

One thing (really ANOTHER thing) I love about Vienna is that their eating and coffee houses rarely provide soundtracks and Ubl is no exception. A wonderful example of a Biesel, Ubl is warm wood, spacious, beautifully cooked meals and a relaxing atmosphere. It was quite possible that my long-dead grandparents may have come to this place 100 years ago and... More

We live in Vienna and love to go to the stylish old restaurants, always a great Viennese experience. This particular one is very nice, it even has some seats in the inner garden. The staff is very nice and friendly, we had a great time. The food is not the best, I had veal Schnitzel and you can get much... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant for traditional Viennese food. It's a small restaurant with dark wood panel and tables. It's not trendy or touristic. Even we couldn't speak any German and without a reservation, we were seated in the tiny garden outside promptly. We ordered broiled beef and Goulash with local beer. The food was delicious and the price was... More

I was there with friends. It seems to be a traditionel family run wiener lokal. We have been there on a sunday and had to do a reservation before. The kitchen is not difficult and sophisticated at all, but what they have is a good hausmannskost..They use good materials and are good. We tried more dishes, I'm from Budapest and... More
