This was one of the restaurants we visited in our search for more traditional Austrian restaurants that catered to locals. Apparently, Franz Joseph used to frequent this restaurant and you just can't get more Viennese than that. The food was delicious - I especially enjoyed the braised fennel we had as an appetizer. The atmosphere was simple yet comfortable, looking... More

Lovely and helpful staff, good local cuisine and drinks at a reasonable price and traditional decor. Well worth a visit.

One thing (really ANOTHER thing) I love about Vienna is that their eating and coffee houses rarely provide soundtracks and Ubl is no exception. A wonderful example of a Biesel, Ubl is warm wood, spacious, beautifully cooked meals and a relaxing atmosphere. It was quite possible that my long-dead grandparents may have come to this place 100 years ago and... More

We live in Vienna and love to go to the stylish old restaurants, always a great Viennese experience. This particular one is very nice, it even has some seats in the inner garden. The staff is very nice and friendly, we had a great time. The food is not the best, I had veal Schnitzel and you can get much... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant for traditional Viennese food. It's a small restaurant with dark wood panel and tables. It's not trendy or touristic. Even we couldn't speak any German and without a reservation, we were seated in the tiny garden outside promptly. We ordered broiled beef and Goulash with local beer. The food was delicious and the price was... More

I was there with friends. It seems to be a traditionel family run wiener lokal. We have been there on a sunday and had to do a reservation before. The kitchen is not difficult and sophisticated at all, but what they have is a good hausmannskost..They use good materials and are good. We tried more dishes, I'm from Budapest and... More

We liked this Beisl very much because it was full with local people and it seemed the perfect place for a family dinner. The waiters were very friendly and the food was not expensive. The glas of Gelber Muskateller was excellent!

We found this place in a folder at our hotel which recommended local eateries. We wanted traditional Viennese food in as local a spot as we could find and we weren't disappointed. As soon as we walked in we knew this wasn't your typical tourist trap restaurant, I felt terrible for not being able to speak a word of German... More

I enjoyed my meal at the Gathaus Ubi. The restaurant was recommended by my hotel as authentic Austrian food. The food was delicious in a charming setting. The waiters were extremely helpful an able to answer questions in excellent English.

Went there with friends on a balmy evening early September, sat in the somewhat dilapidated garden (the Ubl-owners probably don't invest their proceeds) and realized, that if you take away the charming interior of this gem of a Viennese Beisl, all that remains of the praised Ubl is pretty mediocre food (and an uninspiring wine-list) -- still good enough for...
