Description: The "Sternbrau" is located right in the middle of the Old City of Salzburg, next to the world-famous Getreidegasse and Mozart's birthplace. Since 1542, the "Sternbrau" step by step has become the biggest and most popular traditional beer inn of Salzburg. Since October of 2014, the whole restaurant complex is fully renovated and now offers an outstanding variety of eleven halls and parlours with a unique mixture of tradition and modernity. We serve typical Austrian cuisine with a modern twist, our home-brewed unfiltered beer and our own Austrian red and white wine.

Any restaurant that's been in business, since 1542, can't be all bad.....One of the best meals we had in Europe and the friendly staff (Even if the waiter equated my "Austrian Accent" as being similar to that other Austrian....Arnold, the ex-governor of California....but then I emigrated to the US in 1956) was exceptional too....look at the paintings on the wall... We had a similar experience here to others - a seeming indifference on the part of waiting staff - firstly on showing (for which read pointing) to a table in the corner of the old restaurant. We found our own English menus which were in a pile by the table. We weren't given them. Getting any kind of eye contact... More

Pikeperch was delicious. Schnitzel had a piece of black plastic in it and the staff didnt apologise. Only consolation was that we got a new schniztel without any plastic bits

Lots of recent TA reviewers have complained about the service, but you have to face the fact that this is probably the busiest restaurant in Salzburg, and there is a reason. We have eaten here probably a dozen times--we try to eat in the Sternbrau at least once every visit to the city. We love it and the sort of... More

We’ve always enjoyed visiting Sternbrau. This centuries old restaurant had gorgeous wood-panelled rooms with immense painted scenes from the city’s history. The food has always been of a high standard. So when we heard it was closing for refurbishment we were anxious that it would lose its charm. How wrong we were! Still retaining those traditional rooms the new Sternbrau... More

We visited to see the Xmas market and could not believe an establishment could be so rude. The man on the entrance / reception spent 5 minutes on his computer while we stood there and in retrospect we should have left at that point. Inside the waiter pointed to an empty table and after 15 minutes no one gave us... More

My partner and I visited the newly restored and modernised Sternbrau after a suggestion from my sister-in-law who lives in Salzburg. Obviously a vast amount of money has been spent and the various eating rooms are beautifully decorated creating a wonderful ambience. The courtyard, as it was Advent, was exquisitely decorated with Christmas stalls and delicate lights. The food is... More

We stood like a pair of naughty schoolchildren waiting for the downstairs manager to speak to us and when we asked for a table for two he did not even look at us and just flicked his hand saying "upstairs". We should have left but we were struggling to find somewhere to eat in the rain. Upstairs we were told... More

Waited 10 minutes for a table, waiters ran around doing their best to avoid us. We finally flagged one down to ask if there was room for 2, he said no tables. As a family got up the group of men who were waiting behind us jumped ahead and claimed the table. We learned very quickly that this sorry of... More

This restaurant has really gone downhill since expanding. From the outside it looks as though they have really stepped up the quality, but in reality there is just too much going on for them to care about your personal dining experience. I have been there several times since its reopening and continue to be disappointed. The quality of the food... More
