The "Sternbrau" is located right in the middle of the Old City of Salzburg, next to the world-famous Getreidegasse and Mozart's birthplace. Since 1542, the "Sternbrau" step by step has become the biggest and most popular traditional beer inn of Salzburg. Since October of 2014, the whole restaurant complex is fully renovated and now offers an outstanding variety of eleven halls and parlours with a unique mixture of tradition and modernity. We serve typical Austrian cuisine with a modern twist, our home-brewed unfiltered beer and our own Austrian red and white wine.

Good tapas

Tried this at last minute without booking. We were not disappointed. Tasty tapas, good friendly service and nice clean modern decor.

We had an excellent meal with first class service. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. He informed us how long our meal would take to arrive and the timing was accurate. The food was tasty, hot and plentiful. The new eating areas look nice but we preferred the traditional pub-like room. Would definitely return. Oh- the beer was very... More

The Sternbräu restaurant is located in the pedestrian area of the Old Town between the Griesgasse and the Getreidegasse. After an extensive renovation the Sternbräu reopened in October 2014. With 11 dining places the Sternbräu is a huge establishment. At ground floor you find: Sternlounge, Braumeisterstube, Sternzeit and Bürgersaal restaurants. In summer you can eat at the Arkadengarten or Schanigarten... More

Actually , this is an amazing restaurant concept, allowing you to pick the right environment for dining, according to your mood. You want to dine in a typical Austrian setting? Consider it done. Feeling more for a lounge atmosphere? It's possible. Modern & stylish? Yep, it's there as well. We choose the traditional setting which was great. Good food, not... More

I guess its a little unfair writing a review for a restaurant that I never got to eat in! However, I go to Salzburg on average every 6 weeks, apart from a period over Christmas etc... Therefore, this restaurant complex has been much anticipated because from the outside it looks amazing and stylish etc. However, from the exterior it is... More

As a long standing favorite amongst many on trip advisor , the Sternbrau offers a nice selection of Austrian favorites. It provides a traditional Austrian atmosphere, overly well-lit (but normal), and with fair prices and fast service. As other reviews seem less pleased by the service, I found it typical and consistent with the culture and restaurant category. Service was... More

Any restaurant that's been in business, since 1542, can't be all bad.....One of the best meals we had in Europe and the friendly staff (Even if the waiter equated my "Austrian Accent" as being similar to that other Austrian....Arnold, the ex-governor of California....but then I emigrated to the US in 1956) was exceptional too....look at the paintings on the wall... We had a similar experience here to others - a seeming indifference on the part of waiting staff - firstly on showing (for which read pointing) to a table in the corner of the old restaurant. We found our own English menus which were in a pile by the table. We weren't given them. Getting any kind of eye contact... More

Pikeperch was delicious. Schnitzel had a piece of black plastic in it and the staff didnt apologise. Only consolation was that we got a new schniztel without any plastic bits

Lots of recent TA reviewers have complained about the service, but you have to face the fact that this is probably the busiest restaurant in Salzburg, and there is a reason. We have eaten here probably a dozen times--we try to eat in the Sternbrau at least once every visit to the city. We love it and the sort of... More
